At least we only have to deal with this for another ten years or so until our generation takes over the media.

*Banging her head against her desk*
People should understand that every day we face death from our commutes to work to the various bacterias that share the world with us. That young man's death must be a tragedy for his family but by blaming video games is not right. Then again, I rarely read the paper nowadays.

Games don't kill people.
Guns don't kill people.
Crazy people with a screwd up mind kill people.

I'm not even a Brit, and even I can tell you what's wrong with that link.

It's The Sun. No one takes them seriously, for pretty much everyone knows them for the despicable sensationalist populists they are.
Actually, chavs take the word of The Sun as their Bible. :(

How is this any different than if he had died just watching normal T.V. for 12 hours a day.

lol everybody's getting mad. Not unexpected but interesting as the article doesn't exactly blame videogames for anything, just mentioned that they are why he was sitting relatively still for so long (you can't deny that they aren't involved). I'm not familiar with the sun so I can't comment on the quality of their other articles but I actually found this rather interesting. I'm certainly glad I rarely spend that much time on my ass in a day though I wasn't aware that this could happen...perhaps I should take a little more care not to become too immersed in minecraft so I don't suddenly die.

the only thing really wrong with the article is the title, the parents arnt even blaming gaming, they just want to raise awareness.

im sick of seeing people on this forum knee-jerk reaction to things like this, just dismissing it as having no merit because its implicates a hobby of theirs as doing wrong. gaming is just another daily thing that people can and do become addicted to, and just like anything else it needs to be taken seriously

It was not the fault of gaming, this guy must have been one lazy moron. You have to be sitting pretty much completely still for quite some time for such a thing to happen. Just ten minutes of walking could've prevented this every couple of hours could've prevented this, I don't even know how he managed to literally sit there for so long, no toilet breaks, getting food, nothing that would involve him just getting off his ass for just a little while.

And now we'll all get lectured on it, this which most half intelligent people already know. Thanks moron.

While its a shame theres another death it dosent seem to share much relation to the xbox. It mentions at the start he got addicted to playing games such as Halo? well theres a problem straight away addiction to anything is dangerous and unhealthy and it was the sitting still that killed him as well as possibly being over weight.

Also why do they keep mentioning computer screens? most people play the 360 through the tv not a screen personally I have felt much worse effects through staring at a screen all day at work than playing on a console all day.

Oh and is there a daily mail article on this? thought they would be all over it.

'Xbox makers Microsoft said: "We recommend gamers take breaks to exercise as well as make time for other pursuits." '

General intelligence and such recommends not sitting down and doing nothing at all but video game for 12 hours straight or more.

"This just in...stupidity and a lack of common sense causes death."

That is all.

Two things:
#1: Nobody takes The Sun seriously.
#2: You can die doing virtually anything. The only one people have to blame is the man himself.
