look at how fat he is, if anything he would have a heart attack by his mid twenties, moviebob covered this when playing games take light snacks and make sure to stretch once in a while. IT IS NOT ROCKET SURGERY.

Wow. Let's not blame his parents for not encouraging a more active lifestyle when he was younger. Let's not bring attention to the need for exercise and using common sense to take a break. Let's blame videogames! Great work, people of The Sun. Way to promote intelligent research into stories.

I know it's sad and all,but really? If 12h a day is much then what about 18h?

I should of been dead a long time ago.

To be fair though, this guy did play himself to death.

I have to ask....
Do people read themselves to death in the same way? I've never heard such a thing happening, so does it not happen or does it not make front page?

and if it doesn't happen...I'm sorry to say they have a point. If games are so addictive people are playing themselves to death there is a problem. Admittedly, its 95% person and 5% game at fault but still.

Committed hainki...

As someone already mentioned, there are people in this world that do nothing but sit in a cubicle all day. They sit there, eating junk, and generally feeling miserable for 8+ hours a day, then they get in their car and sit in said car for 1+ hour(s) a day in traffic.

Then they go home and sit on the couch.

It sounds like he had more serious health problems than "sitting too long" to begin with. If you sit for so long, and you ignore the actual pains and warning signs from being so sedentary, then you're going to run into serious problems. If you start "fading out" when you stand up from your marathons, then you need to tackle that problem and go for a walk, or do some squats or something, because it will only cause a lot of problems that will give you discomfort. You'll get headaches frequently, you'll get fatigue all day, etc. Starting ignoring all that, then you have a serious problem.

Perhaps it just wasn't his day to begin with.

Sad to see this young man's death being exploited like this.

its not that bad as he the article does quote the guys father saying that he isnt blaming the manufacturers of consoles and he just wants to make people aware what can happen if you sit around playing games all day which lots of people do and something i dont really think is a good idea even though i love playing games

I don't really think it was blaming video games, we might be jumping into 'vidya defense mode' a bit quickly.

I can't believe I'm defending The Sun, but the way it's written really doesn't imply 'VIDEO GAMES ARE KILLING OUR YOUTH'. It simply states the growing issue of more and more people spending harmful amounts of time sat in front of a screen. I actually think it's quite a balanced piece.

No, it does imply it. That's the whole point. There's no real link, but video games are an easy boggyman for papers like The Sun to pull out and try and drum up a little hysteria.

that has more to do with his bad health, he could have been easily killed by a 12h movie marathon

Well isn't that a super sensationalised headline? "LAD OF 20..." if he was 20 then he is over the age of legal majority and considered an adult in the eyes of the law, the head line should read "MAN OF 20 IS KILLED..." but it doesn't have quiet the same ring to it.
Just pointless scapegoating... i could go on for pages about what is wrong with this article... like the fact they are basically calling a halo character a weapon. make me a little bit angry and a lot sad.

This is gona give companies even more of an excuse to push motion gaming down our throats. Honestly we don't need to break to huge sweat every time we play, just every hour or so, get up and have a wander around, get your blood circulating again

If only he was a smoker...

Hmm, that sounds a little insensitive. I retract my previous post.
