Ok, this is just getting stupid, another "pandemic" like the swine flu crap which is once again gonna send people into a panic all only to find out that it can be cured by soup and 7-up. Your thoughts?

Wait...you mean viruses are going to be around FOREVER?!!? I think we should throw the population into a panic every single time one makes the rounds. Thanks, pharacuetical companies, for turning fear into profit!
If your so confident be sure you don't get the immunisation. I for one will be at the front of the cue. Good luck to ya.
But how many people has Swine Flu killed worldwide? Maybe thirty? And they were all people who had underlying medical conditions that already weakened their immune systems. I work in a hospital, never get a flu or pneumonia shot and haven't had more than a head cold in years. Of course it's possible that a new strain will come along a la Stephen King's "The Stand" and wipe us all out but 90% of this is hype to make money for big pharma and the media. Besides, if a virus comes along that is strong enough to make normal, healthy people gravely ill the chances of coming up with an effective vaccine in time is pretty nil.
Swine flu has killed about 450 confirmed cases world wide http://vietnewsonline.vn/News/International/6701/New-flu-unstoppable-WHO-says-calls-for-vaccine.htm and it has just started killing the 'low risk' groups, there are already more than 30 deaths in Britain and there are 3 deaths of previously healthy people including a GP, so the problem is that it has started killing healthy people. Hopefully it won't get much better at it, but who knows...

I know this strain won't wipe us all out, but I'm more concerned about being one of the few healthy people it does kill.

This thread is evidence of the problem. We've built a world that is highly vulnerable to infectious disease; something like this new strain of H1N1 could quite easily turn into a new bubonic plague if we're not careful. (Much more easily, in fact, since we still don't have a good way to treat virulent diseases and because of modern peoples' movement patterns.) Sadly, since there have been a few other highly dangerous diseases in recent years, people aren't taking this very, very real threat seriously.

it is literally no more deadly than the normal flu. the only problem is that more people are getting infected as we dont have a natural immunity to it. most of the cases where people have died of swine flu outside mexico have been those with underlying health issues.

3. Swine Flu's not crap, it's killed people.
So does the regular flu. In fact I would be willing to bet deaths from the flu either rival or surpass deaths from swine flu in the same time period.

You just condradicted yourself mate. The lack of natural immunity is the REASON for the deadliness.

no, the lack of natural immunity leads to developing symptoms, not death.
people without underlying illness will go ahead and produce antibodies and fight it off, most of the time.

It's hardly more deadly than any other flu virus.

While old and very young people count as "perfectly healthy" in certain statistics, they are still prone to die of just about any flu. While one shouldn't yell at the scientists developing a cure (they do a good job), one could certainly facepalm at the knuckleheads who panic every time some guy on the opposite side of the globe dies from something slightly different.

Try AIDS. That's worth worrying about.

Yeah? Normal flu has killed people. If you're relatively healthy, you will recover from swine flu no problem. It's not even any more dangerous than, say, stomach flu.

I'd like to point out that at the moment, Swine Flu has been much less lethal than normal flu is.
Yea, I'm not denying that fact. I was just pointing out how the OP was treating it like that Emo haircut fashion.

Isn't that the same flu pandemic that's been going on for the past month?
Apparently it's mutated into something more according to the article
