Didn't anyone ever play Obi-Wan for Xbox? It was essentially a JK game (PC Gamer ran a cover billing it as the sequel to Jedi Knight when it began development on PC) and recieved lukewarm reviews, but I thought it was half-decent for a game that was supposed to be crap.

By the way the best JK by far - not to mention one of the best shooters ever - is Dark Forces II for the PC. It came out the same year as Quake II, but unlike the aforementioned title pushed the FPS genre in new directions with the introduction of force powers, detailed environments, and a more complex plot.

Obi-Wan was a so-so game lacking effects and force powers I thought, I couldn't play till the end, it was very repetitive and quite weak... Not mentioning the Force powers were lackluster... And I also found it fugly...

I wished they made a game with an "unknown" padawan so you could learn Force Lightning from Plo Koon...

#143> Maybe so, but the violence of the Force in TFU is not likely to die on me soon, it's still awesome. But as I say all the time, buy it used, preferably 20 bucks max.

Also moves like Force Push are of course not Light Side powers but they were probably relegated as such (along with Lightning being Dark Side) in video games for balance purposes. I can actually only think of one Force Power off the top of my head that the other side strictly cannot do (That being Force Light) I could very well be wrong.
In KOTOR, Force Push and similar powers were assigned "neutral" status. They didn't enter into the balance equation, light and dark jedi could use these powers equally.

Aah ok I hadn't played it in a long time, my bad

And hmmm I always put Force Crush as an inventive use of telekinetic power. You're right though in that a Jedi wouldn't use that power but I don't think he expressly can't. In fact the Wookiepedia article says Mace Windu used it on Grevious (I loved that scene haha)

Frankly if you can pull a battleship out of the sky it proves that you don't need a lightsaber. Having acually played Jedi Academy again over the past few days I have to say that people need to stop remembering the JK with rose coloured glasses. TFU is a good game that stumbles a bit but to whine that it isn't Jedi Knight when Jedi Knight games were not and are not perfect is just silly.

Yet I've talked again to a friend who complained the combos in TFU were not as varied and intricate as Jedi Academy, and said it's exactly the same kind of game, a 3D beat'em all with lightsabers, and that TFU could have been Jedi Knight IV it would have made sense to him.
Best yet, he told me that thanks to JA he had huge hopes for TFU...

Meh... I think it proves once and for all people have a visceral CRAVING for comparing unrelated things, and loose sequels (like fighting games series) for maximum nitpicking...

I think the problem is that you wanted a different game, something more like KoTOR where you can 'choose your path' and all that. It was designed to be a fun game to mess around on with a (reportedly) good storyline and there's no way multiplayer would have worked...

Not that I'm gonna buy it, £40 is a lot of money :)

That's because Mace Windu is played by Samuel L Jackson. He'd had enough of this mother fucking General Grievous on this mother fucking...film? Planet? Star cruiser? Death Star?

As a self confessed star wars fan boy, i really should make a point of saying:
Why am i not surprised?

Lets look at the previous adition to the star wars move/game/book collection: the movie Clone Wars. I walked out of that (the only movie ive ever walked out of) Due to crimes against Star Wars

Care to point out where anyone said that TFU would "Define the generation"? Way to state the obvious.

Hey guys, I'm predicting that I'm going to be breathing in the next minute.

Look, in the past, LucasArts used to be known for very high quality games. (KOTOR, and Jedi Knight for instance). The problem is that once Lucas realized that his namesake company could be used for a cash cow, he stopped giving two cents about quality (how else can you explain travesties like The Clone Wars?). They even shoot themselves in the foot when that actually do come up with new and good ideas (does the forced release of KOTOR 2 before it was ready ring a bell?). One can only hope Lucas now realizes that [serious] fans of his franchise still hold him to a certain standard of excellence. If he doesnt, well, all we can do is wait for him to die or retire so he can pass the torch on to someone that still cares about quality. One can hope...

this thread is 5 pages strong? wth?

if anybody actually walked in to buy this game holding their heads high, thinking they are purchasing the next spawn of god himself created on the level of sir lucas's prime, you really only burning yourself. people should learn to stop over-indulging on HYPE, its well advertising to put it simply.

considering you can easily grasp a feel for the game and the direction its going by watching a few production videos, gameplay videos, even the demo. you can pretty well decide whether the game is float or flop. even the story is pretty predictable considering the leaked information.

i set my bar at "enjoyable for a couple of hours to kill the time" and it satisfied my expectation with a dash of a good story that i never cared for. i already knew going in with high expectations that i would be utterly dissappointed, considering thats how pretty well every games these days with exception to some diamonds with the rough.

and since when has lucas arts produced amazing high quality games? im not saying they haven't prodcuded good games, outcast 2 was amazing but i wouldn't hold them to the same light as Halo.

force unleashed, rent it, play it, get over it...

I know that I'm gonna get flamed for this but the GTA games. In MY opinion, they are pathetic excuses for games that do nothing more than make ALL gamers look bad.

What did that have to do with anything?

To be honest, it's interesting to see how recent (and partially) disappointing games like Too Human(Score:65/100) and Mercenaries 2(Score:73/100) get excused and pampered, while Force Unleashed(score:72/100... Same as Army of Two and Dark Sector.) Get torn to shreds by EVERYONE. Seriously, what's going on? This is just a wee bit unfair, people. The only reviewers that opened their eyes to this were PLAY magazine.. and Kudos to them.

P.S.:Score calculations were received from MetaCritic.

Also canonically Mace Windu straddled the edge of the Darkside, his fighting style and saber art were a rare never teached form because it required aggression to master- anyone without a very strong will would fall to the darkside trying to do the things Mace Windu did. Note for instance how he reacts to Darth Sidious- Anakin, while admittedly being somewhat biased due to his temptation, wanted to bring him in to stand trial and I expect any standard Jedi such as General Beardy McBeardyface (Kenobi) would have said the same thing. Windu on the other hand, figured it would be far simpler just to kill Sidious. He's kind of like... Kyle Katarn.

Yeah, once again Samuel L Jackson is the baddest mother in the movie.
