Its kind of weird that the Majority (and I mean majority) of guys who play games feel like its their own private secret thing they do that they can only do with guys. Its like they've made it up in their heads. Just like its weird for them that girls would be Programmers or IT or *Gasp, like comics.

What kind of stone age do they live in? Didn't we get past all of this a few decades ago?

~Satine
nope. but then, even female programmers are rare today. those that i know don't even do it for a living. i don't think it is so much having a guys-only thing, i think it's closer related to a nerd stigma, and that you wouldn't see female nerds (because they don't exist, obviously). i doubt female gamer numbers are high either, which allows stereotypes to rule.

you'll see by the time games will become more mainstream, gaming will become as genderless an activity as watching tv is now.

I don't get harassed often but I don't play the huge multiplayer games. Plus I don't see much point to talking when I play COD WAW. I don't know if it's just the games I play that cushion me from it r what. After all, Vivian is in my gamertag. I'm sure they all know I'm female. usually harassment happens after the game, I get very rude messages...

I just have to say that you have my favorite avatar of all time.

And on topic the times when I do talk I am mistaken for a 12 year old boy, and when they figure out that I am in fact a 20 year old woman they harras me until I change lobby's. That's why I'm usually in party chat or just don't speak up.

What usually happens is my clan tells some whiny kid to shutup. I juggle the possibility that the whiny kid could be a girl and I say, "Guys, it could be a girl." Sometimes that's the case. If she is, then my clan buddies (who take full advantage of anonymous assholery online) decide to be complete pricks while I bite my tongue from telling them to shut the hell up, or turn down my mic volume so I don't have to hear any of it. I don't say anything because I don't want to be some white-knight idiot that ends up looking like the desperate creeper who's defending her so she'll be my friend. But I'm also not going to listen in. What they say might be funny, and funny when I'm playing is distracting. Usually my interactions with females are indifferent information giving (there's a camper in there, bombs at B) but otherwise I don't say much. It'd be nice to play with girls more often though. I just like girls more.

I've been harassed on Rock Band 2, one of the very few games I even bothered to play online. Once they found out I was a girl, they all just yelled vulgar words and told me to do things to myself while on mic with them. Ugh. (Does that even work? Has any girl ever said yes? Seriously.)

The people on Left4Dead2 don't seem to care whether I'm male or female, as long as I don't shoot them. *shrug*

I guess it would be worse if I played on X Box with all those prepubescent boys showing off their new swearword vocabulary (or so I've heard.), but I stick to PS3/Computer.

I've played with girls before. Anyone messes with them, I try to shut them up, usually mocking their sense of "ITZ A GURL OMG". For crying out loud, we need more girl gamers.

12 year olds....on the other hand....those are a blast to mess around with, especially when they start swearing every other word.

I have been shit talked to by 11 year old boys with requests to perform sexual acts, but you know what, I don't think I'm all that special. I've also heard 11 year old boys say the same things to my buddies. Apparently at that age, you aren't too picky about where you get your sexual favors from.

Also, it seems a bit desperate to me, quite frankly. I mean, do these guys think this will work, and some girl will be attracted to them by their mad gaming ski11z? It's been a long time since I dated, but I have to say, dudes, you may be standing out of the crowd crowing like a rooster over my headset. But you stand out in a bad way. I'm just sayin.
I think it's more of a primal male pack thing, they're actually trying to impress the other guys by ripping on the girl. Of course, it works the opposite, the other dudes all think 'what a sad bastard'.

I've never considered that an issue on Xbox Live, but that might be because I like to mess with people's heads. So anytime that happens, I view it as an opportunity to seriously mess with someone.

I'll talk on the mic, and if a guy starts to flirt, I'll pretend to be all flattered, and after he's gotten invested, I'll make it seem like I'm a 12 year old boy getting yelled at by his mom. I find it absolutely hilarious, but I also find the Scrotality achievement in D2R: Retribution absolutely awesome.

Im a guy - Funny story recently.

Ok, There was a girl in the MW2 lobby, And she sounded like a 13 year old boy - The entire lobby was getting pissed off with the bitching, So some told "him" to stfu. She said she was a girl, and they started joking with her.

She was REALLY annoying. REALLY REALLY annoying. I enjoyed killing her repeatedly in-game.
I hate it when people suddenly find out that someone's a chick, and treat them completely differently. Where's the mentality in that? They're the same person, and treating them differently won't get you in their pants. I know certain guys who suddenly try and pull a prince charming when around a girl, but are jackasses to everyone otherwise.

It actually reminds me of my basketball team a couple years ago. There was one girl playing in the league, and we were up against her team. None of my team would really put hard cover or pressure her because she was a girl. I just said fuck it, and got right up in her face whenever she got the ball, just like anyone else I would cover. Suffice it to say, she wasn't used to it, and usually cracked or screwed up when she was really challenged. Hell though, if she thinks she's going to be treated lightly by me when we're in a competitive sport, then she's way too optimistic.

I've got nothing wrong with girl gamers. I just hate the ones that make names like ''GURLGAMERXXRAINBOWS" and then ***** about being hit on/getting more attention. It's like, you don't see guys running around with names like. ''MANBEARSMASHEXPLOSIVES69", unless you're on Xbox Live.

What annoys me the most about female gamers is that when you try talking to them, they expect you to hit on them and can't be bothered to give you the time of day. I just want to game with some females... is that too much to ask? Not sex,, hell they don't even have to TALK to me... I'm just sick of going into a sausage fest everytime I hop online to play a game...

To be perfectly honest. I prefer to game with girls usually. There always seems to be less BS in the team. Usually more teamwork (( tactical shooters FTW lol )) and they are better to talk to because there isn't some annoying joke at the end of every sentence. And a fun thing to get a friend to do girls is when a guy starts hitting on you and you have a friend in the lobby convince him to hit on said guy. I've had a couple people leave the game for that one. Then again most people don't like me on games because I'm usually quiet... And there's nothing against Female gamers I crack jokes to everyone no matter their Gender I just see them as a gamer and don't treat them any different.

I usually mess with the girl (just a short joke, attempting to be funny) and once some people get some laughs out of it, I just treat em like every other person...

I hardly ever use the mic anymore. I used to and I just was tired of the varied reactions with hardly any being the same reaction you'd have when you hear a male. I don't like getting a different reaction just for my gender so being mute gets me no reaction at all.

I normally play with 1 or 2 of my room mates online (there girls) and if i tend to let them play on there own aka stuff like left 4 dead etc the stars tend to drop on my gaming account (they pay a 3rd of my xbox live subscription each year :D). Not because there bad gamers they just seem to get marked down on bad skill automatically which is anoying because they don't do anythink wrong 0_0 however in recenty its normally being where i use the mic while they game.

Honestly, I know a lot of girls who play tf2 and none of them have problems. Sometimes someone says "GIRL! THERE ARE NO GIRLS ON THE INTERNET" but that's generally all in good nature. They're just regular gamers...

I guess the world never really truly changes and Men and Women will always look at each other like alien species. I'm not offended at all. Mostly entertained. On your side of the screen it may be mind blowing. On my side of the screen its a fun experience I had when I was younger. Being out of it for 6 months feels like a lifetime ago.
I smiled. You have a free spirit, I bet that feels good, even if it doesn't always keep you out of trouble.
