The idea of guys ridiculing women for being into "nerd" things is baffling to me. Seriously, how could this possibly be a bad thing? I LOVE a nerd. Nerd women are easily the best women. For example, although she's not a gamer nerd, my girlfriend got me into astronomy and geology. She's really nerdy about sciency things, and personally I find that seriously hot. I suppose I just find intelligence a really attractive trait in women, and maybe I associate nerdiness with intelligence. I dunno. Still, nerdy = awesome, and guys who have a problem with that make no sense to me.

I used to play FEAR a lot on XBL. Infact for about 6 months straight from 6 to 11 was spent playing it online with a few friends and whoever else joined. 1 friend is female. Never once did anyone say anything inappropriate to her for being female. There was trash talk of course but no random person ever came on and trashed her just for being a girl.

Not a girl, but every time I see a girl on Team Fortress 2 with a mic she's made fun of a lot. However, it's all in good nature and the girl usually isn't offended.
That's why I only use my mic if I'm playing with friends.

I use the mic a bit, playing MW & MW2, never got a lot of abuse. I guess guys were just impressed I was quite good at it, and occasionally could win. I guess since I'm in the UK, I played when most of the douchebags had gone to bed. I've not met a lot of other girls online, the only one I have on the friends list shares the account with her parents, so, I guess you get all types.

I really think female gamers should be a welcomed thing.

Hear that guys? Women actually like games. Some of you might have a chance.

Just sayin'.
I welcome female gamers I just never find any girls on Playstation Network and when I do I don't really talk to them. But the girls I do play online sometimes own the shit out of me in Modern warfare 2

People usually don't know I'm a girl when I'm playing, because I won't really address that unless I'm asked directly, so everyone assumes I'm a guy. And then, when they know it, you usually get a "do you have a photo?" or somthing along those lines in the first five minutes. I'm killing things here, and I couldn't care less what you look like, if I would want to get hit on I would be going to a club or something instead, leave me the hell alone.

Now, when there's voice chat involved... works like a clock, the moment you open your mouth it's a freaking uproar. I rather remain silent, being actually treated equally it's really nice.
I see that happen too eveyone goes for their mic once they hear a girl start talking I just stay quiet

I made a post awhile back on how people used to make really rude comments to me or how they would turn and friendly fire me once they found out I was a female but I've learned ways to return that affection quite well. (LFD2: By leaving them to die or just simply switching servers.) Other than that I haven't used the microphone too much so I've been living pretty smoothly the past week and guys usually don't see Mafiastyle on Xbox live as a girl name. So I'm good. When I do talk time from time now - I usually get the guys that are there to just play so I have no more complaints. ^^

I won't quite go that far...

OP: Only girl I've ever played against was in Left 4 Dead 2 - she was Yorkshire, sounded 40 years old and terrified the rest of us.

I dunno, sometimes I get annoyed with other girls who pull the "BUT I'M A GIRL" card. I've been teased a few times, mostly in Killing Floor, haha. In Left 4 Dead I'm lucky if I get into a pub game with some people who have a mic, mostly they just shuffle around uselessly saying "I'm a n00b, do a lot of girls play?" in the textbox.

Also I've been told I sound like Justin Bieber, which was unfortunate until I realized that Justin Bieber almost is a woman anyway.

I don't get a lot of flax for my gender. I always try to be friendly and if anyone is an asshole I usually just mute them :/ My xbox mic just broke, so no more talkies for me. Maybe I'm just that cool? XD

I sometimes get the impression that in 'girl culture' it is weird amongst girls to talk about playing games or admit to it. A lot of women I know will talk about their boyfriends playing games or watch them play, but they only play games which are bright and colourful and non-violent, or help them get fit. I work in an environment full of women and I have a sneaking suspicion some of them do play other games, but won't dare taint their feminine reputation.

A couple of my best friends play RPGs and so does my fiancee. We bought a Wii last week and she loves playing Mario Party and Kart, but not Brawl. She loved Lost Odyssey which we kind of played together. But she hates gore. But a lot of girls I know around my age also used to play Sonic or Mario on the older consoles.

So I think for the majority - intense gameplay is out of the picture. So online play is a no no. Therefore, no opportunity for most women to get harrassed.

Shame that those who do will probably be bitched at or flirted with.

Although some women who I have met online have admitted to using their gender to help get items in games in MMOs - especially Warcraft. :S
