Have you ever loved a game when you were little, go back and play it, and realize that it was terrible? If so, what games?

For me, I'd have to go with Donkey Kong 64 and Wario Land 3. The camera in DK64 handled like it was trying to run away, and the forced character switches were oftentimes for the most arbitrary and asinine reasons possible. Wario Land 3 didn't even pretend to have the slightest semblance of difficulty. I'm not just calling it easy, I'm saying that the game didn't even make you think that any action you did posed any threat to Wario whatsoever.

The original Tenchu on psx. That game has NOT aged well, welcome to polygon / fog hell.

A few months ago I bought both Sonic Adventure 2: Battle and Sonic Heroes in tandem with one another.

Playing the former brought back awesome memories of my childhood.

Playing the latter made me return it immediately. I'm sorry, I just...couldn't.

Sonic adventure for me.

I dunno, I have mixed feelings for it, since it has some very nice levels and it looks pretty good but the controls are GOD AWFUL, it feels like it works properly only half the time and and... fishing?

But how dare you say such a thing about DK64 OP. I played it a couple of years ago and it was brilliant and I got 101% for the first time on it and Banjo Kazooie is better.

Crash Bandicoot

Downloaded the first one off PSN about a year back for some warm, fuzzy nostalgia.

I was rudely awakened by how much it sucked.

To be fair, the sequel and its sequel's sequel are excellent, as they refined on the formula set down by the first one.

At least, that was how I saw it. I assume we're talking about the ones developed by Naughty Dog.

The sequels (by Naughty Dog) are definately better.

The only thing I can remember enjoying from the first game was riding on a wild hog, and even that is beat by the sequel where you get to ride a baby polar bear.

Demolition Racer on the PSX. Back in the day, it was cool. But now? Only good thing about it now is the intro. Driven to destruction/Test Drive:Eve Of Destruction is the new demolition derby king game for me. That is, until crytek uses cryengine 3 to make a demolition derby game.

Driver. The first one. Seriously, try to play an original PS1 copy. Holy shit, it's ugly and slow.

Back in the day it was awesome.
I still like it better than any of the sequels.

I'll second this. I remember loving it at the time but god it wasn't a gracefully constructed game.

Commander Keen. Sadly all of them handle way to awkwardly for me to really get into again. Played the hell out of them in the day, but they just aren't as fluid as modern platformers, and how games handle is a major factor to me nowadays.

San Francisco was pretty good, but unfortunately that's the entirety of my experience with the franchise.

Sonic 3d Blast. When I first played it, I was so amazed and it was the coolest thing ever. Now I have Sonic 1-3+S&K on the virtual console and Sonic 3D just looks and plays like crap. Sonic was not meant for more than 2 dimensions.

Actually, that one I haven't played outside of the demo. It did seem like a vast improvement over the past entries in the series. In large part due to getting rid of the horrible on foot nonsense.

Final Fantasy IV. One of the first FF's and probably first RPG's I played. I loved it when I was a kid, but now it's a big pile of meh. Generally boring to play, and the story is predictable and melodramatic.

Pokemon yellow. I just can't get around the lack of colour these days :( I have Leaf Green to keep me company at least.
