if you're willing to spend some money, check out Red Dead Redemption, some of the dialogue made me laugh, but the true humor is in the Undead Nightmare DLC, if you're willing to shell out 10 bucks for it (fantastic deal in my opinion) it had some of the best zombie humor I've seen in a game

Check out games by Tim Schafer. Both Psychonauts and Brutal Legend have a wonderful sense of humor about them.

I'm gonna add Darkened Skye to this discussion.

Its a game for the Gamecube (and PC) it's pretty low budget, but magic is controlled by skittles. ..The game really doesn't take itself seriously at all >_>

Early 90s point and click adventure games all have a charming humor to them. All to a various degree. Off the top of my head:

- Full Throttle
- Sam and Max (I heard the recent episodic ones are pretty good too, but the original is one of the greatest games of all time)
- Thorin's Passage
- Monkey Island (1-3)
- Day of the Tentacle
- The Legend of Kyrandia (1-3)
- Space Quest (5-6 especially)
- King's Quest (6-7 especially)
- Grim Fandango

There were others too... basically, think of it in these terms: in those days, PC games weren't made for 12-year olds, and the genres were also generally slower and more casually-paced, so the writing was generally significantly better. The games themselves (as in, gameplay-wise) are not necessarily too good; however, with the help of a solution manual (can be found anywhere) all of the games above can result in time well spent, and probably more than a few laughs.

MadWorld. About as over-the-top as No More Heroes, and while the commentators can produce some groaners, they are mostly funny for the most part.
I know you said Portal, did you mean Portal 2? If not, I HIGHLY recommend it! IF, of course, you don't mind dark humor. I don't know if anyone else has said this, I'm tired..

Oh, just remembered more:

- Toonstruck (generally an amazing game, not just writing)
- Simon the Sorcerer (1-3)

Most of them have been mentioned, so I'll just mention Deathspank again. It can be hit or miss, but it has more than a few moments that'll make you laugh, and quite a few more that'll at least make you crack a grin due to the absurdity of it.

I thought Overlord and Dungeon Keeper had some pretty good satirical moments.

The Disgaea series. Though it's more a mockery of anime, so if you're not a fan you'll likely miss half of it.

Actually, all Nippon Ichi games seem pretty lighthearted.
Yeah, I have to agree with this. Nippon Ichi Software is one of, if not my favorite company.

OP, I'd definitely recommend either the Disgaea series or Z.H.P. Most of the humor in Nippon Ichi games comes from how hilariously over the top it all is.

It's a rather simple matter to be doing quadrillions of damage in the post-game (A silver trophy in Disgaea 3 is dealing 100,000,000,000 damage in one attack, actually.), but Z.H.P.'s antagonist is named Demon General Darkdeath Evilman...and he's seven years old. And the protagonists are Super Baby, The Absolute Victory Unlosing Ranger, and Reckless Cop Dangerama.

Grim Fandango and the Monkey Island series for the humorous writing, Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law is funny-ish, the Phoenix Wright series can be good.

I know that some reviewers over-hyped this game but Deadly Premonition has a lot of bizarre comedy to it, just don't be expecting great gameplay. Double Fine games are usually pretty funny (already mentioned Psychonauts and Brutal Legend but also Costume Quest and Stacking have some laughs). I also loved a lot of the radio stations and TV shows in Grand Theft Auto 4 as well.
