If you want awesome, I recommend FLCL. (If you want to pronounce the title correctly, try saying "Furikuri!" as fast as you can.)
6 episodes of wonderful weirdness delivered at breakneck pace!

WARNING: Please make no attempt to understand plot. Bad for brain. Just relax and watch the awesome!

EDIT: The show is sometimes referred to as Fooly Cooly - as in the post directly above this one. There is, as far as I know, no official English translation of the title because it apparently makes no sense in Japanese either.

Watched Princess Mononoke yet? Hey, just asking, maybe it's obvious or "not a series", but nobody mentioned it. And if it's new to you: you should watch it, it's so obvious! Haha.

It's a an adventure story, samurai epic, fantasy story, it's got life and death topics, very romantic, etc... It is, as it were, "a good movie".

Beck Mongolian Chop Squad. Quite possibly the most relatable thing I've ever seen from Japan, and one of the most believable love triangles.

A thousand times Xam'd Lost Memories! I just finished it today and I love it. Its a big time fantasy action anime. Final Fantasy Unlimited is another good choice in this catagory. As far as midevil goes all I got is Spice and Wolf.

to aru no index- a good modern day magic/supernatural show.

gurren lagan-(it might start with a t like tenga toppa gurren lagan) a good robot parody.

slayers- a medieval magic parody its also is old so if you dont like the look of old animes you might not like.

gintama- uhm a parody of anime? its a humorous show with some dramatic bits but it is episodic and has no real plot if that turns you off.

fairy tail- personally i feel that it is similar to one piece in the main character and flow of the series and is medieval with magic.

melancholy of haruhi suzimia- a modern day supernatural anime and dont be thrown off by the first episode should atleast watch two as i saw the first episode and didnt like it. year later i saw the second and loved the series

Can anyone recommend any animes that I could watch? I'm usually into medieval/supernatural/just plain awesome shows, but my sources has been running dry lately. If you guys could present your favorite animes and tell me why they are awesome I would be deeply grateful.

Shows I've enjoyed in the past: Naruto (Flame all you want, it has it's moments) Full metal Panic, Elfen Lied, One piece etc. As you can see I'm a noob who needs to widen my horizon, so feel free to post even if you take it for granted that I've heard about it.
Well, I might not be able to help you too much with the medieval aspect because I've seen relatively little anime as compare to some 'true fans' but I'll give you what I can and categorize them.

Here is every anime I've ever watched (both movies and series) in order from best to not-as-best-but-still-good in my opinion:

1) The Irresponsible Captain Tylor
2) Planetes
3) Spirited Away
4) Full Metal Alchemist
5) Banner of the Stars
6) Cowboy Bebop
7) Crest of the Stars
8) Castle in the Sky
9) Princes Mononoke
10) Evagaleon
11) Ranma 1/2
12) Uresi Yatsura
13) FLCL

I used to like anime, but I stopped because I found %90 of it to be crap. That said there are a lot of great series/movies out there such as:

-Spirited Away (Movie)
-Princess Mononoke (Movie)
-Cowboy Bebop
-Samurai Champloo
-Neon Genesis Evangelion
-Ghost in the Shell (If you can follow what's going on, I couldn't when I was fifteen :/ )
-Paranoia Agent

These are all very good and I still enjoy them to this day, although Evangelion may be a bit too strange and surreal for you if you're just into action.

Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo.
That thing is just such a good adaption of the novel. Got the trippiest art style for an anime as well. There is just something really special about fencing duels with giant mechs. BTW,
BEST REVENGE KILLS EVAR! Especially on the banker guy.

If you're interested in classical music or pianos, look for some Nodame Cantabile.
For something a little more light hearted, go for Moyashimon or Honey & Clover.
Someone mentioned Index; I like the spin-off, A Certain Scientific Rail Gun, a bit more.

Here is some anime that I consider quite good:
-Bakemonogatari
-Eureka 7
-Neon Genesis Evangelion
-The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
-Macross( all of the series except for Macross7, which is lulz, but not as epic as the others)
-Gurren Lagann
-Death Note
-Code Geass
-Gundam 00
-FLCL
-Pani Poni Dash

There are more that I would recommend, but I can't get to my computer with my 500 gigs of anime right now.

Unless I accidentally skipped over it, not a single person here has mentioned "Noir", and I don't understand why. I finished watching it not too long ago, and it has decent characters, an interesting plot, some outstanding animation (especially considering that it's about 10 years old by now) and a kickass soundtrack.

Aside from "Noir", I will (as always) recommend "Neon Genesis Evangelion", simply because it's a damn good classic you HAVE to see if you're into anime at all.

If high-fantasy sword-n-sorcery is your kick, try Escaflowne. It's quite good.
