Any good JRPGs on the PS3?

So, I have not played a good new JRPG in almost a decade now. The last one I played that I can honestly say I enjoyed was FFX, and that is stretching it. I've been replaying FFIV-FFVII, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, Phantasy Star 3 and the likes to fill the gap but it is getting to the point that even those, my favorite JRPGs are losing their appeal.

I have seriusly thought about picking up the Star Ocean game for the PS3 but I never played any of the previous ones. I would like an outside opinion. If you were trying to play a game with that same feeling as the old classics I mentioned above, what would you recommend picking up?

There are tons of good JRPGs on PS3, but I will say that you'll NEVER find a game that truly captures the old-school feel in any genre. Sorry, that just doesnt happen. You can find things that are close, though.
Lets see...here's a few.
Disgaea 3.
White Knight Chronicles.
Eternal Sonata.
Star Ocean The Last Hope
Enchanted Arms.
Final Fantasy XIII (actually very similar to FFX).
Demon's Souls.
Resonance of Fate.

Coming soon, there'll be White Knight Chronicles 2 (comes with an upgraded version of the original), FF XIII-2, Disgaea 4, Level 5's Gundam RPG, and a project that Inafune just announced. Hope this helps. :)
No Agarest War? Comon man that games amazing, its sequel came out today in america at least

No one has mentioned Valkyria Chronicles yet, I'm shocked, and it is, perhaps, the best console JRPG this gen. I haven't played a better JRPG this gen than Valkyria Chronicles, I only have a PS3 so I haven't tried Tales of Vesperia.

There's also Nier, I bought it but haven't played it yet. But I hear the story is amazing. I picked it up because I found it for $15, I just haven't gotten around to playing it yet.

Eternal Sonata and Resonance of Fate have been mentioned already and I really enjoyed both of them. Eternal Sonata is a very solid game. RoF has a really unique and cool battle system but the whole story is not present in the game (even if you talk to everyone) and you have to read the plot at Wikipedia, the characters are awesome though.

A thread based on the world's biggest oxymoron? What next, a thread on PS3 and having large amounts of games?

Only vaguely JRPG like game I've ever played was one of the Final Fantasy games, and to be honest it was the most pretentious bullshit I've ever sat through. May be judging the genre on one games a little here, but it really put me off playing any others.

Folklore is a really good game, though I don't know if it classifies as a JRPG or not :S

The japanese version of fallout new vegas

Thats a JRPG
Then I'm claiming the whole Final Fantasy series as played by most people on this site, as Western RPGs :D

It doesn't work like that.

Thanks for the suggestions. Out of all those mentioned, which one has the best story and above all else, which ones have characters you can actually grow to like. That was the big thing that get me hooked on the old JRPGs. If I can't like and get attached to the characters, I absolutely can not get into the game. This has been a serious problem with the recent generations of JRPGs. None of the characters in the games are interesting enough or are just down right annoying. Also, which ones could I drop into not having played any other games in the series?

Disgaea 3

It has an excellent sense of humour, and a brilliant cast of characters that, unlike most JRPGs I've played, are absolutely tons of fun.

And, actually, that goes for the game as a whole as well. Most JRPGs I've played, I've only been into them for the story, and I give up as soon as I come to a fight I can't get past.
But here, the gameplay's actually FUN! Somehow, even the slog of levelling up isn't completely boring, and the special moves you can unlock are superb in their over-the-top-ness.

But as well as being a hilarious romp, it also manages to have a good story. Not a particularly deep one, but still an enjoyable one, and there are even different routes you can take through it. I think. I know there were in Disgaea 2, I ahven't unlocked any in Disgaea 3 YET though.

I haven't played Disgaea, but Valkyria Chronicles genuinely has a fantastic story and characters. At least so far, I haven't beaten it yet, stuck on one particular mission. However I will say that I wouldn't classify VC as a JRPG, its a TRPG. Imagine if you crossed Final Fantasy Tactics with Gears of War and a dash of Eternal Sonata mechanics.

It is quite awesome, though.

Demon's Souls is my favorite PS3 game, period.

Star Ocean: Our Last Hope was fun, but not that great. I personally really liked Final Fantasy XIII. I haven't played much of Valkyria Chronicles yet, but I really like what I'm seeing.

I just took alook at that and am kind of confused...What is that games primary gameplay? I can't tell if it's a tactical game or a shooter. I was hoping for a turn based JRPG. Man I'm sounding like a picky child now. >.<

Its a game based of the console war even if it sucks its a game based on the console war
Unfortunately, as you said, it sucks (a lot), and even a neat concept can't save it.

Hmm, good RPGs? I agree with many on Valkyria Chronicles being great, but its not a typical RPG. There's always FF13, but its such a divisive game (I personally liked it), I can't say if you'd like it or not (though if you liked FF10, there's a chance you will).
