I LOVE guns.
People always think it's weird, especially when I go on about what I'd like to own someday (I've got my fire-arm license coming in the mail any day now, and I can't freaking wait), bu I think of it like this: A gear head will go on and on about the types of cars he loves, and why he loves them. A gamer will go on and on about how they love their games, and their favourite platform to play on. So I, as a gun lover, will go on and on about guns I love, the style of action I think is my favourite (Originally bolt, but dang it: Lever action is just so epic), optics to use, calibers, and so on and so forth.
Everyone has hobbies and interests, mine is guns.
I originally got my license to buy guns just for target shooting. Some guys like to goto the golf driving range to hit a bucket of balls. I love going to the shooting range to shoot of a box of bullets. It's just awesome. But I decided to get into hunting to really put on real use to my firearms, and that's been awesome. Only went last season for a day or two, and didn't even use my own shotgun (Can't, license hasn't come yet), but it was an awesome experience. And I didn't even bag anything!
All the stigma and fear mongering about guns needs to stop.
They are a tool, like a saw or shovel. If used incorrectly, foolishly, or maliciously, they are dangerous. Just like a shovel, or power drill, or car. But anything can be used that way. Just like you expect people who are allowed to get behind the wheel of a car to have the proper education and understanding of how it works, and how to keep themselves and others safe, I expect others who handle firearms to understand how it works and how it's properly used in order to keep themselves and others safe.
Which means I'm 100% behind gun ownership by civilians, but only after a required education program, safety course, and background check is completed (That's our system in Canada). What people do with illegal and illegally acquired firearms should have no bearing or weight against those who legally and responsibly purchase and own firearms.
...sorry for the rant. Got a little carried away.
What was the OP about again? Oh yes. Do I own a gun! Not yet, but once my license comes I'll be buying a Mossberg 535 ATS 12 gauge. Slapping a red-dot scope on it and then rushing to sit in front of my calendar and wait until hunting season.
