Well, I'm still new to the Escapist, and I've come out of the closet recently as transgendered. It always helps, I find, to make friends with like minded people. Nice to have support, aye?

So, just of out curiosity, any other trans gamers on the Escapist? I'd hate to be alone here.
Yes.

Yes, you are.

You are the only person with a sexual identity differing from 100% heterosexual to ever pick up a controller or to find this specific website.

In fact, you might be the only person to ever have a differing sexual identity EVER.

You're just.

That.

Special.

But no. No, you aren't.
Yeesh, you act as if I've run over your dog. Besides, I asked the mods if I could change my username. Still no reply yet.

I've been around the metaphorical gaming block a time or two. LGBT+ presence isn't as prevalent as you seem to think it is. Just because something must be a statistical certainty doesn't mean it has visibility or prevalence.

We highly value our safe spaces, and most of us don't go around exposing ourselves to hate speech and other forms of attacks unless the space seems safe enough. So in many places, even if we do exist, we keep quiet.

It has nothing to do with being special or thinking too highly of yourself, it's about trying to reach out to people like you who otherwise keep a low profile and don't shout their gender or sexual identities to the four winds.

Oh, I can understand that perfectly. I'm all for there being safe spaces and such, and I know this community, and am proud to say that it's definitely a friendly and welcoming place.

That being said, this doesn't quite seem like a 'looking for a safe place' thing, as they're doing the exact opposite. I was attempting to parody the Critical Miss strip, as I'm sure by now everyone and their brother already has.

Regardless, I'll delete the comment, as I can see it didn't come across quite the way I intended it to.

Sorry, that honestly didn't come across as I intended it to, I've realized.

Welcome to the community, and I'm honestly glad that you feel comfortable enough with yourself to advertise it. Far too few people do, and fewer still are comfortable enough to even admit it. On another note, my personal opinion is don't change your username, honestly. If that's how you feel you want to identify yourself online, then let absolutely fucking nobody tell you otherwise. You're who you are, and fuck the rest.

The Critical Miss episode (and every other instance of "no, you're not the only one on the internet") is always a criticism of an attitude that can be defeated by five seconds of logic. That's the entire point of the sarcasm, pointing out the five seconds of logic the person apparently missed.

Doesn't really work in this case, that's what'm saying.

True... at the same time, though, I do want a slightly quirkier username. I myself feel the username's a bit redundant and gives people the impression I'm an attention grabber who thinks she's a precious snowflake, and as nice as the Escapist (generally) is, I've still come under fire from unsavoury characters.

I'm hoping the mods have gotten my message and give me my new username. I'm not here to cause trouble or ruffle any feathers. I just want to have fun and geek out.

Yeah, I agree. I've asked the mods to delete the post (as I haven't figured out how to do it on my own) and have apologized to OP, as I can honestly say it didn't come out as I intended it to. (Heh, captcha is words of wisdom)

Amen to that. That's why we're all here, really. Still, do whatever you feel would make you the most comfortable. I can understand your trepidation with the name, and can see how others'd resent it, and aforementioned unsavoury characters can eat a bag of dicks.

No problem, glad it was just a misunderstanding. :)

One gay guy here.

You're never the only one, but unfortunately on many sites people lack the courage to come out and stand up for themselves. However you'll find on this site that it is certainly not the case. With such an open and respectful environmental (To Liberals, that is) it's no surprise that people won't hide themselves as they do in other parts of the internet.

As the first reply stated, there is a group on the Escapist specifically for gamers who are of the LGBT (Yes, I know, I do make it sound like a religion. ;P) to converse.

While I'm not an LGBT gamer myself, I'll help by linking you to the Escapist user group for them called The Escapist Gay-mers [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/The-Escapist-Gay-mers]

Since I'm not in the group, I couldn't tell you how active it is, but there's plenty of people in there at least.

Hopefully that helps you.
Wait, the OP said that he/she is transgendered. That isn't even a sexuality, being gay is. Why would he/she fit with the gaymers in particular? Unless he/she is actually gay....that's fine too.

It isn't just a gay group it's LGBT group, of which the T stands for transgendered.

I think they just chose "Gay-mers" as a bit of wordplay.
