I can give you plenty of fantasy. :p First, I reccommend the Skulduggery Pleasant. Got them out of the library a little while ago, now I'm keeping an eye out. Awesome books, a great narrative but surprisingly funny. The Bartimaeus (Jonathon Stroud)trilogy is in the same vein, also awesome but I don't think as good as Skulduggery. John Flanagan's Ranger's Apprentice books. Just authors now;
Eoin Colfer (sci-fi meets fantasy, check out Artemis Fowl series)
Terry Brooks
Tamora Pierce
Cristopher Paolini (surely you've read the Inheritance cycle, but just in case)
Sorry, I have more but I'm supposed to be studying right now anyway. Check some of them out. Top three, I would say, are Skulduggery, Bartimaeus, and Paolini, but check out Artemis Fowl, great books.

Kushiel's Dart
Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next series
Hitchhiker's Guide

I'm going to read Gibbons' Neuromancer next based on reputation.

These books by R.A Salvatore (in this order)

The Dark Elf Trilogy
The Icewind Dale Trilogy
The Legacy of The Drow Series
Paths of Darkness
It's been awhile, but are you suggesting chronological order instead of publication order? I read these when they were brand-new, so that wasn't a choice for me. However, would a reader necessarily feel that invested in Drizzt's fate early in the Dark Elf Trilogy if they haven't seen what he makes of himself topside? Of course, I decided a long time ago that Salvatore was coasting on the success of his first three books.

Yeah I did the same (read them in publication order) and I found that, as good as it was, The Dark Elf Trilogy's impact was sort of lost on me as I had the benefit of hindsight (i.e we all know Drizzt is going to be ok in the end because we read Icewind Dale first). Also I can see where you're coming from on Salvatore's success. I struggled to finish the latter books as it just seemed like more of the same or completely overblown trite *cough*TheSpineOfTheWorld*cough*. However, The Sellswords Trilogy was quite entertaining so I'd reccommend that if you haven't already been through it. Other than that... I'm at a loss, unless you're into band biographies, I'm currently halfway through Spray Paint The Walls: The Story of Black Flag, there's some crazy anecdotes in there.

Anything by Garth Nix is great. The Keys To The Kingdom (Mister Monday, etc) and the Sabriel Trilogy (Sabriel, Lirael and Abhorsen) are great reads and not too long either.

well i would recommend the maximum ride series but in the 4th book it starts talking about recycling and saving the earth and its kinda gay

a book i really enjoyed is "on a pale horse" by piers anthony...its about a man who has had almost everything taken away from him and soon finds himself depressed to the point where he tries to kill himself then death walks in and instead of killing himself he kills death and has to replace him

so i just finished my book and i am in need of something new to read, i have just finished reading some books by Raymond E fiest so none from him please. So could someone suggest a good fantasy or sci-fi book, I would preferable like something that is fast paced and has a real save the planet/galaxy feel.
Enders Game, Enders Shadow, Dune House Atreides, Wheel of Time The Eye Of the World, or because everyone should read it...Ishmael by Daniel Quinn (not a fast paced fantasy at all, but still amazing).

Since we've been through WH40K yet no one's mentioned Eisenhorn or Gaunt's Ghosts by Dan Abnett, I will. Also, a lot of John Ringo's work qualifies.

Terry Pratchetts Discworld series, definitely a good read.
Jim Butchers Dresden FIles series is really good, a sarcastic wizard P.I. in modern Chicago, who rides a zombie dinosaur through the streets at one point, whats not to love?
Also the Vampire Files by P.N. Elrod are really good.
