any suggestions for a new book to read

You could try the Drood books by Simon R. Green. They're fairly predictable, but still enjoyable.

Codex Alera by Jim Butcher was good too. Less sarcasm than in the Dresden Files though. You also might like the Cal Leandros series by Rob Thurman. It's about a half-human, half-auphe guy (The auphe bit's explained.) Those are also pretty good, if a bit angsty.

Maybe a little outta left field, but it's a truly compelling and chilling read.

Play Mass Effect, and read all the dialogue that's given throughout the game. According to their reviews and/or boasts, that should be enough sci-fi book for you to last quite awhile.

If you tried to find all the dialogue in that game, it would probably take you upwards of 60 hours. Also, Mass Effect is the best sci-fi book I ever played.

Very true. I had a ton of fun playing it...probably helps I'm an avid reader, too.
