So I've been reading through the Muv-Luv series recently and I'm currently on Alternative just after the section I've spoilered
Where you see Marimo being eaten by a BETA and run away to the other world. I've just got to after that where you're learning about the BETA after coming back.

Now this scene was one of the most emotionally heavy scenes I've encountered so I need a visual novel which is nice and light, preferably comical and being a eroge helps :p

And before any one says, yes I've read Katawa Shojo been through every route now. I've also got Fate-Stay Night but I got a bit bored of it. So any recommendations?

Saya no Uta (Song of Saya) by Nitroplus. It's a masterpiece, a brilliant cosmic horror love story. :)

That and Chaos;Head, also by Nitroplus. It's a deep psychological horror thriller. Really entertaining read, I strongly recommend you try it out.

A light, comical atmosphere, eh? I vote Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo. Likable characters, interesting world, the funniest protagonist I've encountered in fiction and has Wakamoto Norio.

Steins;Gate is an interesting, thrilling, funny and emotional rollercoaster ride. Awesome story, lovable characters (that admittedly take some getting used to) and an utmost thrilling experience with good chunk of humor to go with it. It's the best thing ever.

Clannad is the one game (Well, I watched the anime first) that made me bawl my eyes out. Though it does have the tendency to drag on (This game is Looooooooooooong), I thought it was really sweet.

Also, I've seen people recommend Saya no Uta, which is really fuckin' amazing. But I'll warn you that it is written by Urobuchi Gen. And let's just say that he doesn't write the... flowers and rainbows kind of stories. Saya no Uta is not a VN I'd describe with "Nice, light and comical"

Well, people already recommended most of the good ones.

If you like mystery with a little romance i recommend "The Devil on G-String"(G Senjō no Maō)
Awesome characters, well written story, nice plot twists and overall a good tale.

If you like mystery more about horror then you have the well know "Higurashi no naku koro ni" and the indirect sequel "Umineko no naku koro ni".

They are know as the "When they cry" series. Some people love it, some people don't.
I love them. Nice characters, mindfucks all the time, puzzles, horror, everything a mystery novel must have. They take a long time to read too. (Umineko for example has 8 arcs, each is around 3-5 hours of reading, but it depends on your speed).

So, I notice everyone is ignoring that the OP is asking for a light comedy and posting heavy romance/drama VNs.

Unfortunately, I don't know of any comedies or I would recommend them.

Also, if you're going to read through Clannad I would honestly wait for the Doki sub of the VN to finish. Doki is picking up a translation project that's been going since 2005, but I think they can finish it. They're quite good at what they do, IMO.

I'm not really into the genre, but I've thinking of possibly checking out YU-NO: A Girl Who Chants Love At The Bound Of This World based on the fact the music is by Ryu Umemoto.

Has anyone had played the recent fan translation?

Well it's not exactly light and humorous, but have you heard of Katawa Sho-

Oh.

I'm sorry, OP, that is actually the only VN that I've ever read. I'm planning on branching out from there, though, since KS was incredibly awesome to me. I wish you luck in your search, since I can't even imagine how a light/humorous VN would play out.

People have already got many of the other major ones, but I'd recommend you try True Remembrance. It's free and is an extremely moving story. The art is pretty ghetto, but the soft colors and good eye for character design makes it look better than it should. If you like your visual novels well written and heart-breaking, it's more than worth a look.

Is Chaos;Head worth checking out if you've seen the anime? I've seen the adaptation and thought that it got beyond retarded at the end, is the visual novel any different/better?

Muv Luv Alternative is still my favorite, but if you want a comedy with some eroge, then Kira Kira is the best one I've played.

I got bored with Fate/stay night as well. It's an overly hyped piece of shit. Good thing that Fate/Zero is good, or I'd also hate that IP.

Much better, I'm really liking it. Though I don't know what the anime is like.

Limited into english ones right?

The hard to read ones
-Chaos;Head (Much better than the compressed thing that they call an anime adaptation)
-Steins;Gate (when it becomes available, they already finished it, but got "JAST'd")
-Ever 17 (you're not a VN player until you've played this)
-G Senjou No Maou
-YUNO

The right in the middle ones (Light on the surface, but it's pretty DEEP inside)
-Little Busters
-ef -A Fairy Tale of the two-

The lighter ones
-Clannad
-Sengoku Rance
-Kira Kira
-My Girlfriend is the President

Hmm Kira Kira looks good, thanks for the suggestion. I just need to take a break from Muv Luv Alternative because it's getting a bit emotionally draining at the moment, I am really liking it though and do plan to finish it.

EVER SEVENTEEEEEEEEN

And the rest of the Infinity Cure series - in order they are Remember 11, Never 7, Ever 17, 12Riven, only E17 and R11 have been fully translated though

And Chaos;Head, Steins;Gate and Robotics;Notes are pretty good too, at least according to the people who have played them (only Chaos;Head has been translated, I played it and it was pretty good)

They have no sexual content and mind-srewy multiple route endings. E17 and R11 are my most recommeded ones, E17 is the fourth highest rated on VNDB. It used to be second until Steins and whatever Muv-Luv is came along ¬_¬
