It's not just microphoes either, in text bars at the bottom of any game I play (Guild Wars, Altitude, Toribash etc) there are always people (read: tweenagers) using foul language; insulting other players if they win, insulting other players if they lose, going on and on about how good they are and then making excuses when they lose. Makes me wonder why I'm about to start playin wurm.

I think, there shouldn't be an age limit on the mic. But the bloody games. A kid shouldn't be playing these games anyway.

Then people are dicks if someone is a kid/girl because people can't tell the difference.
Even if they were polite, and not saying things your typical kid would say. At the end of the round "Oh nice game." in a non sarcastic manner, that really sounded like a girl rather than a kid. They vote-banned her then laughed about banning some little kid.

People are rude and/or stupid regardless of age.

I don't think there should be an age limit, because then you'd have people who were older screaming racial slurs and shit rather than 13 year olds.

At least the kids have a chance to get it out of their systems when they are younger, and the exclusion of mics would discourage a lot of teamwork in online games as the kids could not communicate with their team (unless it is on PC in which case they can always type).

So, IMO, no; but I understand your reasoning.

Mute people who annoy you and if the game designers don't add a very easy and quick way to mute something you shouldn't give them your loyalty or money.

It isn't fair to blanket ban every child because a certain percentage ruin it by being idiotic. The internet provides anonymity and thus bravado. If you don't know how the net works by now, gtfo.

Personally I mute children/high pitched people as I find the voice/sound annoying and the fact a child is playing a game under his age rating peculiar and that I feel a bit creepy playing computer games with a ten year old.

I think we should do away with microphones all together unless your in a party. I mean, it's just stupid, those mics where put there so you could communicate and use them for team work... instead people just use them to scream down the head phone. I swear I would love to get the addresses of some of these people houses. When I used to play online with games like COD where most didn't have mics but add to type... you never had any of this shit. Reason? because you couldn't do anything while typing so typing would equal death.

Its because the smart ones are in the minority. Not all kids are the annoying assholes in Xbox Live. Some kids are more mature than some 21 year old saying how he can kick everybody's ass, but if your just complaining about voices than just mute them.

You know what?

I don't hate 'noobs' or little kids, or anything like that. I hate people who constantly ***** about them. And heres why:

XBox Live is not yours. You are not a more legitimate player than 13 year olds or less skilled people. You are actually the minority. Plus, it seems to me that these kids who get on people's nerves have more fun than most older skilled gamers do anyway. They do not rage, they do not grind themselves stupid for achievements. The point of gaming is to have fun, and they get that the most. So in the big scheme of things, Xbox Live and online gaming is more 'theirs' than anybody else's.

There is always a mute button. Use it and get one with your life.

Argh, ya damn kids. Get off my cyber-lawn.
Also, why sixteen? Are you, by any chance, that age?
Anyway, I'm all for some kind of restriction. Actually, I only want voice to work when that one guy who does the best Atlas impersonation I have ever heard is playing . He's a pretty good TF player too, but who cares.

Instead of the under 16 age ban, how about just make it a pitch based thing. There are some high pitched 18 year olds who play TF2 here and bugger they can talk about nothing the whole game.

My opinion is that it is unfair to treat said children in any negative way just based on what they sound like.

If they are annoying and/or a complete dumbass, then it's fair game, but just because they have a high pitched voice is not enough grounds to be a dick. Which I have seen quite a bit of in my days.

The kids don't annoy me as much as the the "adults"(18+) do.

Well, according to the rules someone under 16 shouldn't be playing a game like TF2 or Modern Warfare anyway so a rule against them using mics would be a little bit pointless :p. Also, age =/= maturity, there's quite a few adults I've played with that deserve a mic FAR less then some of the kids I've played with.
all of these people are very wise and deserve a cookie

get off your high platform and let gaming be what its supposed to be, enjoyable for all

really i have played with some great kids before (my brothers included) and unless they are screaming into the microphone (this is overdone..really it almost never happens to me anymore, and you know what? it lasts 2 seconds as there is this cool feature called a 'mute' button) i really dont mind them being on my time or anything, more power to them for getting into games early on and being mature about it

Well most mature kids like I understand that the Mic isn't really needed and you don't really have to shout out slurs of irrational comments and I personally keep the Mic for my colleges and co-op type games to not be faced by some of the thing the 16+ people say, you also can be very harsh.

Well, this is still technically a kid's hobby, and to be honest, I can understand kids being kids, but 30 year old adolescents are something totally different and far worse.....0o

I don't really think there's that much of a consistency of high pitched dickheads on teamspeak. I've got an xbox and maybe there's a kid like that in maybe one in twenty games for me. Maybe it just seems like a lot more because when it happens you get so annoyed for a longer lasting time. Then again I might just be lucky :/

I play on the PC and its very rare you do get kids talking over VOIP, In fact every time they have been very mature and well mannered, depends on the kid I guess, Don't have a problem with it though as long as they are not little brats.

In fact it always brings a smile to my face when you get kids over VOIP who know what they are talking about and know the right tactics, once saw a kid probably around 12 bossing older people around lol, not in a bad way though, he actually knew what to do, was very funny when people actually listened to.

Was sat there thinking "you tell em kid" lol

i just wish this idiot kids parents would actually LOOK at the freakin age recommendations on the bloody box... and IF they insist their 7 year old must have games made for 18 years and up,.. then they should stay in the room and make sure their kid isnt being a complete jackass.
