if my poll is to indicate, they are the current most form of gamer crack in that they are completly pointless but provide a euphoric response. so being pointless but oddly satisfying at a rate of 21 to the runner up option of "i try to ignore them" which has 5 at this post, i think they should be removed since they dont acually require anything for them.

sadly i am as addicted as those 21 people and find an odd amusement out of them but i would like them to have meaning again. its like a contest that gives out blue ribbins for simply attending... You can quote me on that.

I like badges, they are just little reminders of accomplishments you made here.

The only beef I had with a badge was actually when I logged in today. I got the badge for watching the fan favorite zero punctuation video. The problem is that I watched a marathon of him yesterday, so i don't know which video it is from. (If anybody could tell me which episode it is, I would be grateful)

Also, how can you get sick of getting awarded something?

Actually, seeing 11 new messages on my thing was rather funny.

I like badges, but yeah they're late to the party.

I don't mind though, I like me some badge(r)s!

Also, I must respond to this with Gerbils and Death Rays. [http://www.narbonic.com/gerbilsong.html]

I don't mind them at all. The only thing is it's a bit disappointing to see "Four New Messages!" and think somebody's discussing things with me, only to find that nope, it's badges and I still have no friends. But that's okay, because badges are neat.

Gotta say, I'm blown away by the response to this topic- and shucks... getting a unique badge just for starting it was pretty special too :p

I'm grateful for those that pointed out that turning off the notifications for badges was possible. That's really all I needed to hear since my issue was not with badges themselves, but the notifications for them masquerading as actual inbox messages.

Thanks guys!
