Anyone ever had to stop hanging out with a really good friend?

My friend who I've had for as long as I can remember doesn't do alot these days, mostly sits on his ass, claims benefits and plays WoW, seems like abit of a dick but I've always liked him just because we've been hanging out since we where like 5. Lately though he's been blowing me off to play WoW with his girl friend who lives afew thousand miles away and is probaly a bloke, 3 weeks ago I asked him if he wanted to watch the Champions League final and have a couple of bevvys or something, so that was the plan. Then on Saturday he tells me he needs to hang out with his e-girlfriend so can't watch the game with me, I just went and spoke to him today and asked if he still doesn't want to hang out and he pretty much casually told me to fuck off so he can play WoW.

It's a shame, I enjoyed hanging out with him and he only has one other real life friend, but it's down to him if he preferes magical elves to real people.

Anyone else have a similar story?

LOL you could replace WoW with heroin and magical elves with crackheads in that post and it would still make sense.

I lost my best friend since we were 6 to heroin. Hopefully we'll get back in touch when he get's out of rehab in a year or so.

I also lost 2 other close friends to a mixture of heroin and speed. Not very pleasant to see your friends go down that road, and watch their lives deteriorate before your eyes.

A friend of mine I used to hang out with, was rather one track minded. If for example he got into a certain band, he'd listen to that band exclusively and claim everything else to be inferior to his current musical taste.
I could deal with his elitist snobbery because we still liked the same genre at least, he wouldn't complain but he wouldn't noticeably enjoy it.

After moving away, he changed dramatically. He wanted to join the Marines, his musical tastes and interests changed overnight.
It was a shock to see him as a completely different person, he became somewhat unpleasant
to deal with.

Which is a shame, because he used to be such a timid person too. Until I started hanging out with him and introducing him to the world.
I created a monster as far I am aware.

Worse, I think, are friends who take up drugs, and get so smacked off their tits they need medical attention. At least they then tend to come to their senses, after their bowels stop doing the hokey-kokey.

Sounds like hell. I was in a similar situation, but my ex-friend turned my ex-girlfriend against me and made my life hell.

Also had a friend who took my SNES games and broke my gamecube and took one of my RE novels. What a dickhole...
