I for one, am a recovering WoW addict, but looking at youtube video's for the expansion are getting me really excited and are making me want to play again (I'm hoping I can fight the temptation).

Anyone going to play come back for the WoW expansion?

Because we play MMOs for long enough to not be bothered and because content update in form of patches that often add whole new zones to grind at are still 'free'. See GW1 had no fee but pretty much every major change was in expansion you had to buy.

When it comes to my WoW related excitement however, it died long time ago. The expansion doesn't fix the issues i had with that game ever since Burning Crusade and that were further expanded in WotlK. I'd rather wait for TOR, TSW, GW2 or V:tM MMOs.

Most people can afford 60 bucks plus a sub.

I unsubbed a month ago myself, but I won't be resubbing until I get a job, since I doubt I can convince my parents to keep paying for it when I'm old enough to pay for it myself.

Wrath has been a gigantic failure in my eyes, but Cata looks promising.

Nope, I never bought wotlk. Wow is fun but not enough to justify the monthly subscription.

That most people can afford it isn't really the issue here. It seems like double charging to me. Maybe I would feel differently if I played it but from the outside looking in, it seems ridiculous.
WoW is good value for money. It's 8 pound for a game that will take you well beyond 1 month to complete, and it's enjoyable. I'd rather spend 8 pound playing WoW than spend 80 pound a month on games that can be completed in an afternoon. It obviously varies from person to person, but every game I've bought in the past year or so hasn't been worth the price I paid. I have so many games left incomplete because they're just boring, and I paid full price for them. I can't play on my Xbox for longer than an hour without getting incredibly bored, and in that time I'll switch games 5 times unless I'm speaking to friends. WoW though is different for me, I can play it all day. I don't, but there's always something to do and that appeals to me. 8 pound a month really isn't that much for what you're getting, and what you're potentially saving.

OT: I'm subscribed at the moment, but I don't know if I'll get Cataclysm straight away. There are other MMO's coming out that I'd like to try, and I'd rather buy a new and shiny MMO than an expansion on a game that I've played for so long. Cataclysm does look good though.

I certainly am.

Kinda nervous, too. There's a few places I like hanging out in-game for aesthetic reasons. I like the idea of Desolace becoming a paradise, but I hope nothing happens to Loch Modan...

I am too, Cataclysm is pretty awesome. At least from what I can see. Flying in Azeroth's the best, I was sick of hoofing it across the Barrens.

I was excited about a month or two ago but now as It's gotten closer I cant find myself too excited for it. I will buy it and play it once i can afford it. I was also equally excited for FFXIV as well but after learning more about it I kinda fell away from it. With Cata, i dont like every change but hey, who does? I'm looking forward to trying out the new questing experience in the old revamped zones, probably with a Night Elf Mage.

I used to think like you, I have since bowed my head and admitted fault. The worth is there.

I put 4-5 years into WOW and this newest expansion looks like a retread of the "Old World". I quit the game because it got too repetative and raids got smash face of keyboard easy. It looked like Bliz was trying to get a handle on the power creep, but its old and played out to me. My advice would be find something else to fill your time with, even a free to play mmo.

I'm in on the beta, and the redesigned zones that I've tried so far are an improvement on the old questing for me. I was kind of sceptical at first, but the low level zones I've tried seem to work for me, and there's been some nice additions.
Not played the higher level stuff yet, so can't comment on that.

Will most likely resub again when the beta is out - levelling new alts will become a new-ish experience, and I probably won't be able to explore everything by the release lol.

WOW is $180 per year plus expansions which run $30-$40 per year if an expansion is released that year.

So, $210-$220 a year for one game. Can you name any other game you would pay that much for per year?

Oh well, to each his own I was just saying that at $180 per person per year, there isn't any reason why expansions shouldn't be free (or $5 for a disc).
I, personally, don't play that much. I frequently have 3+ month breaks and I'm usually only subscribed for about 4/5 months total.

Although, that's not a lot when you think about how much people spend a year on retail games. I have friends that are convinced I "waste" my money playing MMO's when they buy 3 games a month at retail price, and they only play them to pass the time. Even if you only buy 4 new games a year, you're still paying more than you would by just playing WoW, and most gaming experiences (for me, at least) are forgettable and mind numbingly dull and overpriced to "experience", I'm not surprised people pirate.

This is going off topic, and it is indeed to each his own. I know that Blizzard do constantly update WoW for free though, adding new raids, gear etc.

Played the beta, cuz i was too was tempted. It's boring and completely affirmed my decision in leaving WoW for good.
