Well... I Used To Want To... For Ten Years...

...Now I've Learned Some Things And I'm Not Gonna Sign Up To Go To A Foreign Place And Fight And Kill People For A Lie... A Government-Made Lie.

That And I'm A Conscentious Objector Now.

The Only Reason I'd Break That Is If Somebody Really Was Threatening To Come To My Country, And Kill Me, My Family, My Friends... But Nobody Threatens To Do That Anymore.

Finland has mandatory military service, so I'm actually in right now. Currently done 10/12 months. Went to NCO School and became a Squad Leader for City Jaegers in the Guard Jaeger Regiment in Santahamina, Helsinki - you can look it up on wikipedia under "Guard Jaeger Regiment". It's been an amazing experience in terms of leadership; both military and normal leadership.

And the best part is that we don't get sent anywhere unless we voluntarily apply - so after 6/9/12 months (depending on what training you receive) you're sent into the reserve and don't have to think about it anymore - unless you get called in for refresher training (which NCO's especially tend to, although the current budget cuts might affect that dramatically).

Long story short - I've thoroughly enjoyed my time, and would gladly serve longer than 12 months at this rate.

Your profile says you were born in 1995, so if you are 16, how have you been in the military for 10 years? Bonus question, why did you make EVERY word you said start with a capital letter?

OT: I've been considering it for a while. The Navy is definitely not for me, I'm not a fan of large bodies of water. I can swim, but I'm not comfortable in it for any longer than 5 minutes and I would probably not do well living on a ship. I've been thinking of visiting the recruiting office in my city and maybe getting some questions answered though and pick the guys brain and weigh my options.

EXTRA: This captcha took it too far! Really? Special characters?

You will never ever catch me joining the military.

All this stuff about 'Honour' and 'Serving your country' is bullshit.
Besides, it's going to be more glaringly obvious that all these wars are fought for is oil...
Where's the oil? "These wars" were not started over oil. If they were, we'd have oil pouring out our fucking ears. The war in Afghanistan was a direct result of the 9/11 attacks. American's doing the world a favor by taking care of that piece of shit country. The war in Iraq was about neo-conservative nonsense, turning the region into a pro-US democratic mini west and all that horseshit. I wish the Iraq war was about oil. That's clarity of thought I can get behind. Go in there take their shit and get out. That is why you start wars.

Are you trying to justify war?
Because let me tell you, that isn't going to work on me.

Maybe not all modern wars are based on oil (i never said that if you actually listened), but i bet you that oil is on the minds of our leaders, hell, when we bombed Libya, what do you think was going through our leaders minds?

Also, one more thing: Just because you've seen something and been somewhere, doesn't mean you neccesarily understand it.
Just sayin'.

I couldn't join the military even if I wanted to. Too many health problems, physical and mental. Besides, I already know how to make Thermite and a few other fun things.

I couldnt join the army I dont think

and even if my could my gender would be a probelm (rather off putting after that "skype sex" scandal we had a while ago)

as far as Im concerned let the boys have thier club, killing isnt a place for PC equality (by that I mean lowering of standards and pushing for females to get in in the name of equslity) however hats off to any lady who wants to join up...

The only way i am going to join the norwegian military, is if the norwegian government gets involved in a conflict worth supporting. There is actually enforced conscription for men in norway (even though norway has not been under any real military threat since the cold war), women are allowed and encouraged to join the military but are not conscripted. I strongly dislike the idea of conscription, but if you are going to do it, and claim to treat men and women as equals at the same time, as the norwegian government does, then both genders should be conscripted.

I was recently sent a form, meant to evaluate me for conscription. If it were not for terminal illnesses i would probably have to go through physical evaluation, maybe i would be conscripted.

I'm not trying to convince you of anything. War however is human nature. To not have war is to be inhuman. If oil was on the minds of the Bush admin then they did an awful job at getting it. Then again, it was the Bush admin after all. I personally believe they had more asinine intentions than oil. Libya is something everyone should have stayed out of. Either evade the damn place and do as you please, or leave them alone. Sanctions, air strikes and all that nonsense accomplishes nothing. This is why NATO is a joke.

Greed, Anger and Hatred are all in human nature, however war is just a bi-product of that, and isn't neccesarily part of human nature.
For instance, we all feel greed and hatred in our lives, however not all of us have ever liked the idea of war.
Does that make them in-human?
No.
That's a ridiculous thing to say.

Libya was mainly about the oil, that's why they were so interested.
Our governments don't give a fuck about these people, they just want to exploit them.

I wouldn't join the military because believe it or not you aren't serving your country you are serving your government. I do not believe in this war and would not join the military because I have no say in who I have to shoot and why I have to shoot them.

While I don't disrespect soldiers at all, I live in a military community and work for the army, I don't believe that serving in the military should get you props just because you chose to do the hardest job in the world.

WW2 is different, Europe was under threat of being conquered and turned into a fascist dictatorship, those guys were serving their country because if they didnt then we were all shafted, if we werent in the middle east our country would probably have a lower threat of terrorist attack (Britain)

I respect the fact that people can do the hardest job in the world, I do not believe they are "fighting for my freedom" or "fighting for my country" they are fighting because someone has ordered them to fight and it's their job that they chose to do. No matter what they have been indoctrinated to believe.

I believe they are trying to fight for my safety but even then the fighting has probably caused more danger to my country because before we got involved in the middle east no one wanted to bomb us.

I respect soldiers individually, I respect how hard they work at a job I could not do, I respect that their job is so hard they could die. I do not automatically respect them because they chose that profession.

It is not an honour to be in the military it is a hard job. I also thing it's a travesty that my countrymen are being killed to "liberate" other countries and fight illegal wars on dubious intelligence and for dubious reasons.
