I recently got into the Arrow series and now I want to stick some arrows into people. I've always loved using a bow and arrow in games, so I'm always the rogue, but most RPGs don't have great archery combat and the rest of the games I have that have archery don't implement it too well. I tried to play some Far Cry 3, but you run out of arrows too damn fast. Skyrim's is way too easy.

Seconding Mount & Blade: Warband. You could role-play a Robin Hood-esque character and lead a whole band of archers if you desire. Or you could up-step it even more and play a Scythian/Mongol styled horse archer. It's definitely got one of the better archery systems, even if it can be a tad easy.

That said, it isn't exactly "archer focused" as it is medieval warfare focused in general. So I dunno. Apparently the Tomb Raider reboot had good archery, but the game looked pretty lame, so I'm not sure it's worth putting up with just for some arrow shooting.

Keep in mind that unless you put A LOT of points into archery in Mount & Blade it feels VERY useless, I've fired entire quivers into a rampaging horde of 100 tightly packed troops and not hit a single soldier with a modest skill of 100 archery.

Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor has some decent archery, though it too is pretty easy and isn't really useful as a replacement for melee, more as a supplement.

The best games I can recommend for a good archery experience are the "Thief" games, I'm not sure how the newest one stacks up but Thief II and Deadly Shadows have really nice archery in them with multiple types of arrows and plenty of situations to use them and good archery angles. That being said, Thief isn't a "combat focused" game, so most of your archery is done as stealth shots.

Skyrim?

Be a mage, warrior, dagger based rogue and always end up as a stealth archer!!

:p
He did mention Skyrim already and found it too easy, which is understandable, I might however suggest modding as a route to fix this. With increased difficulty and archery mechanic overhauls archery becomes very fun in the game. I recall my favorite playthrough being a Conjuration/Archery expert with the Deadly Dragons mod, each dragon was so powerful it could kill with a single breath attack, conjured monsters, cover based shooting, and bows were absolutely necessary to stand a chance.

Another for Mount and Blade here. One of the most satisfying things is to fight a cavalry heavy enemy in open battle and just run away on your house whilst shooting arrows back at their horse. I've single-handedly taken on 100+ men which such mad skills.

The latest Tomb Raider was great too. I used the bow for nearly all of the game. I think the sound effects were what made it great.

I played several Elder Scrolls games (Morrowind, Oblivion) as a custom class called The Dark Archer. as such the games were very heavy on archery just because I made them to.

try it, play the role. it is great fun!

No one has mentioned Probably Archery? I've not played it myself but from what i gather is basicly a rage inducing simulator with baffilingly complex controls, it's qwop with bows and arrows from what i've seen.

Official trailer link if your curious.

I actually enjoy the archery in Skyrim. Do you play with the crosshair on or off? I can imagine that having the crosshair on would make archery and magic a lot more boring since then you don't have to actually aim.

I recommend Towerfall: Ascension. Its a 2d archery death-match game, and my current favorite couch multiplayer game.
Not exactly like archery in other video games, but it is hilarious fun with friends. Local multiplayer only, though.

Yet another vote for Mount and Blade. It's definitely the best experience I've had with archery in any game, and I'd especially recommend the Gekokujo mod to go with it. It sets the game in feudal Japan, where nobody has any pesky shields to hide behind.

You can upgrade your quiver in Far Cry 3 to hold up to 20 arrows. And you know you can pick them up once you use them, right? I never ran out of them. Also the Tomb Raider reboot and I believe the Crysis games right?

I'd really love to know how archery buffs have so much fun with it in Mount & Blade, I can't seem to hit anyone until they are within a couple strides of melee range. I'm pretty good with the game, never have a problem with aim usually, I can kill just about anything from horseback with a lance and two-hander, but archery no matter how many points I put into it just doesn't really feel good to me because it misses so often, I also never could figure out the arc of shots very well.

The bow and arrow in Tomb Raider 2013 is good fun, in fact when given the choice I would revert back to using that rather than any of the guns. The Last of Us also has fun archery, though it is insanely overpowered when used stealthily as any hit on any body part of a human or 'runner' is an instant kill.

Also, there is Links Crossbow Training on the Wii, I found that to fun and you can probably pick it up cheap now.

The archery in dragon's dogma is a TON of fun. You have various kinds too, including magical bows or a combination of assassin/archer for some stabby goodness too.

When your skill is high enough, your bow fires with laser-like precision. At that point, you just need to have a feel for the projectile physics, and you'll eventually be able to reliably headshot targets hundreds of meters away. Even moving targets when you're on horseback won't be safe from you.
