This August 17 (a few days from now), the Cleveland Orchestra -- one of the top ten best orchestras in the world -- is performing The Rite of Spring by Igor Stravinksy, complete with the actors, at an outdoor theater. I'm probably going to see it for my birthday.

According to Wikipedia, it's also the day Michael Phelps went hardcore in the Summer Olympics of 2008 and got them gold medals.

There's actually a lot of interesting things that happened on that day in particular...

Reading on, two coal mine disasters also happened resulting in nearly 200 deaths each, German torpedo boats kill 750 US soldiers, an 11-year old strangled a 4-year old, the Chernobyl incident, the Celtics beat the Knicks...you take the good with the bad, I suppose.

Well, several cool things happened on my birthday this year. Though all personal. And not for sharing. I'd probably be perma-banned several times if I described everything that happened from 7pm-7am the night before my birthday.

Anyway, happy birthday and thank you for reminding me about the Perseids, I knew there was something important happening, I just couldn't remember what!

I'm born on the 7th of July, which is really cool for anyone into anime/manga. It's the day of Tanabata, the day all school girls must dress in yukatas for my amusement and wish for my approval. It's also a huge cop-out birth date for a lot of anime characters.

My birthday is January 8th - the same day as Elvis Presley (which means I've become very used to hearing his songs on the radio each birthday) and also David Bowie, and Stephen Hawking. According to Wiki, it is also the day a long time ago that African American men were granted the right to vote. And if you're a Christian, I believe it is also the 'rest day' after the belief that god created the world in seven days.

Not too bad, even if it is a little too close to Christmas present-wise.

It's my birthday today too, happy birthday OP.

Well it's my 21st birthday yet I have no plans involving alcohol, I made my own cake if that can be considered an event(I'll say it is of course) but just an average day so far. I'm not a big fan of huge parties, especially when I'm the center of attention.

I heard about the meteor shower too, so I might check it out if it is visible from where I am, and I'm sure there are plenty of historical footnotes that take place on August 12th that are somewhat interesting.
