Metal Gear Solid, all of that sneaking around just doesn't suit my Johnny Testosterone gaming style.

Does anyone know a game that is said to be one of the greatest games ever made, yet no matter how hard you try to like it, how many chances you give it, you just can't see what everyone is carrying on about?
Yes. Starcraft! Most definitely Starcraft. Even when it was new it was nothing special at all. Story, Graphics, Gameplay, it was all pretty bland and felt empty.
The videos were good, technically, but again, not really good. Even the Krossfire Intro and Briefings easily bested them in terms of atmosphere and content.
Don't visit Korea with those opinions. Otherwise there'll be more than cat in the curry.
Anyway, I'll put a second out for the Halo series. I never did get the big deal with it. Probably because I was playing CS and DoD, and y'kno, having sex with girls.

Mario 64, my friends played it religisly but to me it was just a derivitive and simple racer. i didint get the digital devil saga either. I love love the shin megami tensei series usually but the dd saga appeared to have stript of all that made that series great.

Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door. It's weird because I really liked the first PM (it was the first game I beat, actually). I dunno, my GameCube got very little love after my PS2 game collection began to grow. I never bought a Wii, nor will I.

Oh yeah, and Final Fantasy VII is nauseatingly overrated, I can't see what all the fuss over Halo is about (Call of Duty kicks its ass), and Fire Emblem games always start to get unbearably boring at the time I'm at the last level (holy shit, give us a way to revive characters; I've spent more time restarting than I have strategizing). I gave up on them after playing both American Game Boy releases to their respective last levels.

i couldnt get into starcraft very much because of the lack of everything (starcraft 2 on the other hand im looking foward to)
and halo...overhyped and a truely mediocre game, nothing special. To quote Yhatzee "what it is is average.. a run over the mill"

Racer?

I have to admit, I originally bought into to the whole "OMGZOR ITZ THREE-DEE M4RIO!" excitement that was going on, but once that novelty wore off, I found it to be rather pointless and bland. Sunshine was a little better, and I'm quite fond of Galaxy.

FFVII and foo on you that hate me for it. I respect that it is a definitive game in the Role Playing Sphere, even though you have very little actual control over development, and I get that it was pretty and HAD a story that had depth...but it wasn't just deep, it was convoluted, confusing, and, when it made sense, melodramatic, which isn't necessarily bad. But combat took forever, those little "plot development" pieces in there would have been great "go grab a soda" times except I had to keep hitting a button to skip text. AND THEY WALKED SO DAMN SLOW. Plus, once I got to the point where I hadn't heard the plot from friends up to that point, I just stopped. It reminded me of a one-legged donkey. Lame. But I get that people really like it. I liked FFVIII.

And foo on you who hate me for it.
What does it mean to be foo-ed upon? What is the appropriate reaction I should take?

Another vote here for Mario64 and Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door. I'm also adding in Devil May Cry 3 and Warcraft 3.

Finally, Shadow of the Colossus. Seriously, am I the only person to find that game mind-numbingly boring? Like, honestly, does anyone out there agree with me, cause I've yet to meet that person. There has to be somebody somewhere who thinks that just 16 enemies in one entire game is boring. Are you out there? Am I alone? Does this make me a bad person?

As a final note, foo on all you FFVII haters.

im gonna have to agree with starcraft, and for that matter the warcraft games as well. they can be quite fun, espically those missions where you have a limited amount of troops, but for the most part its just endlessly collecting resources until youve built up enough of the strongest troops available and rush the enemy camp.

also, the call of duty games. everyone keeps talking about how intense and gripping they are but all ive ever seen out of the game is a boring, monotanous romp through a sub-par single player campagin. the multiplayer as well feels just like a clone of cs and tf depending on the game mode as well.

and finally half life 2. i understand why its praised so much but i just couldnt get into it. loved hl and opfor, but had to force myself to finish hl2. not a bad game, but i did have to force myself through a good portion of it.

Oh theres no problem with persona 3 (it came out last fri here) its a return to the slightly twisted form for shin megami tensei, fusing better demons through the power of friendship! Yay! :)

I think you might be alone on that one, but I don't think it's grounds for feeling guilty. There's still time for you to come around.

In all seriousness, playing Shadow of the Colossus was what got me back into video games and to start taking them seriously from an intellectual & critical point of view. I just didn't know they made games like that until I fired it up on a whim. Haven't looked back since.

I never really got into the Brothers in Arms games. True, the game is praised for its flanking mechanic and super detailed historical accuracy to WWII, but I still couldn't get myself past the first 3 levels.

CoD 2 and 4. Tonnes of technical problems they refuse to do anything about or even acknowledge exist. Bland and "dumbed-down" shooting (probably to appeal to CS players)

Maybe it's because I entered the series with CoD:UO which was amazing to me. It had realistic recoil, bullet leading, sprinting and vehicles, cooking 'nade, ect. I think it's the game that got me into tactical shooters. Then come CoD2 with it's spray and pray zero recoil noscope no sights lawl shottie throw your grenade at a cloud gameplay with guns that came in two categories "good (44/tommy/rifles/shotties)" and "nearly useless(everything else)". Then add the problem of being near impossible to play competitively without a steady 125fps and less than 60 ping. Bullets that hit you after you've moved behind cover and seemingly random hit detection.

Then came CoD4 and everyone was like "ZOMG SHINEYz" and all of a sudden it's goty. Almost all the problems that made 2 so unplayable persisted. As a whole it was a definitely better. Ping and fps wern't as huge as cod2 (still quite a nuisance), but the problem of "good guns and peashooters" was as obvious as ever.

And sniper rifles are still broken.
