Application accepted or rejected: Dalek wants to join US military

I was having a passing thought about "Doctor Who" the other day that got me thinking about how our modern military would react to a real life dalek wanting to join. Lets say the dalek is loyal to the United States and honestly wants to join. Would the US military's current requirements allow the dalek to join, or would its metal chassis and physical condition force the military to reject our dalek friend's application? Would any other western military force accept the dalek's application to join if it was a citizen of their country?

Yes. This is the US military we're talking about. They would accept it, no sweat.

And if they don't want it, the military here in Sweden would be pretty interested too.

I'm pretty sure any military will accept a Dalek. 'cause if you don't have it, then someone else will.

Accept? No. Can't pass the ASVAB and doesn't meet the physical requirements. Also, being a member of a gang/hate group is a no no. Taken possession of by DARPA? Sure. I'm sure they'll love to turn it into a giant death ray.

So I was looking through the news and saw that a sikh man was finally allowed to join officer training for the US military.
The British government is considering forming a Sikh only regiment and the US army needs a court order to let one join. The Sikhs have a long standing reputation of being the hardest fighting troops of the Indian army. A reputation maintained on the battlefields of WW1 and WW2. The total inflexibility of the US military bureaucracy never ceases to amaze me.

i doubt they could "officially" allow it to join since it's not human. although if the opportunity to recruit a dalek presented itself i wouldn't be surprised if they did anything to allow it to join hell they would probably redraft the constitution if it meant they could get their hands on a dalek.

Remember that Daleks aren't just robots that say 'exterminate'. In theory the Daleks racism, sadism and ruthlessness should disqualify it.

*Dalek rolls in*

"I WISH TO ENLIST."

"Really? This isn't an...evil plan or something?"

"NO."

"Ah, cool. Let's see... You've got a death ray arm and a plunger arm that interacts with machinery and sucks information from people's heads... Your body is a small TANK and you can FLY. Welcome to the US Military, soldier!"

Seriously, free weapons for the US Army? Not only would he be an asset, studying and reverse-engineering his body would give us access to all his tricks. That's death rays, anti-grav, poly-carbide armor, forcefield technology, new scanning and data acquisition technology, and so on. They couldn't possibly say yes fast enough.

So far I've been rejected by the UK, US, Irish, German, African and Chinese Military. Apparently having a Flying Death Machine Robot on your side is bad for PR. Oddly enough Switzerland has asked me to come see them again, I over heard something about Weapon Development and Scalpels. Sounded really fun.

No, wouldn't meet the entry requirement. Can't crawl or do push ups.

But...wait...Sikh man finally allowed in officer training? Did they exclude Sikhs until now or something?

See, that's the first thing I thought.

But OP's first thought was apparently "Huh, they let this guy in, I wonder if they'd let an extraterrestrial biomechanical killing machine enlist..."

(No offense to OP)

Also Daleks are essentially trashcan space Nazis...besides we still got plenty of tech from Roswell and we already have drones so meh.

I didn't mean anything political. I just had a fun thought and wanted to talk about it. I'll edit that part out to avoid misunderstandings. Frankly, I think its a wonderful thing he was let into the military.

No need to apologuise. As a member of the Escapist it's your divine duty to take complex political and ethical issues and ask "How would this work in Doctor Who?"

Anything less is high treason.

Daleks would make horrible soldiers. They can't march, they'd be hopeless at drill, and good luck finding a uniform in their 'size'.

They might qualify as a military vehicle, however. I know there's a biological component ... but we'll just treat them as a 'live in' pilot.

Duct-tape one to a quadrotor drone and send it ahead of your Special Forces teams, opening every door and neutralizing electronic equipment on the way. It would be the greatest thing ever, until ISIS develops wood technology.

They did fine in World War II! Just ask Winston Churchill!

(That might be a problem, actually, but you see my point.)

Yeah, there's no way they'd let it just join - but they would sure take it and reverse engineer it for technology.

They probably will because they would try to find a way to adapt Dalek weaponry and armour into something more fit for humans. It would then massively fail because Daleks would be pretty insulted if one of their ranks would lower themselves to helping an inferior species.

I doubt it, given the known links to global terrorism that the Dalek race have, (EXTERMINATE!! EXTEEEERMINAAAATE!!), the history of multiple attempts to kill every human that exists, I'm fairly confident that the US military wouldn't allow them to join. It would be like taking an application from a known member of ISIS, it's just too silly to consider.

Besides, they would be like "Are you kidding me? A dildo and plunger? Those are you weapon attachments? We've got better shit than that."
