Well lets look at this from a simple perspective: We can view Earths creation as a habitable planet and Humanitys own rise, surviving extinction, as one in a billion. There are perhaps trillions upon trillions of planets in countless solar system spread throughout the universe. That means that statistically speaking, yes there is a good chance that somewhere out there is a sentient society... somwhere.

We don't really know just how big the universe is. To say that there are no aliens would be incredibly silly.

For all we know, there could be several Earths running around this galaxy alone.

It would be rather silly, not to mention selfish, to think that we are the only ones in the universe. It's just too big.

Now, whether or not they've been visiting our planet and flying around abducting people, is still very much open to debate.

Of course there is!
I have no proof to support this but really, the universe has billions over billions over billions of stars. Many of them with planets.
It is highly unlikely we're the only inteligent life on the universe just like it's unlike we will ever meet them.
More simple life, such as unicelular kinds of life, I believe those are more likely for us to find. Saturn and Jupiter moons have a good potencial due to existance of water below their surfaces and heat provided by their inner volcanos.

I would like everyone to see this image whitch is the deepest spot on the universe that the telescope Hubble could capture.

[a href='http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/0d/Hubble_ultra_deep_field_high_rez_edit1.jpg']Hubble Ultra Deep Field [/a] (18.6 MB btw)

Now, after seeing that, knowing that every non dark pixel on that picture is a galaxy with billions of stars, can you really remain thinking we're all alone?

Um... Of course not! We're definitely not- I mean, THEY'RE definitely not real...

...Fuck.
Quiet fool, they must not become suspicious...
This human substance, this so called "Mountain Dew" just gives me too much eneregy... Makes me slip up a bit. I mean, this hu- shit, there's really no way to recover from that one, is there?
There may be a way... Quick! Make a reference to the power of dew being over 9000! The level of annoyance will distract them from your earlier mistakes.

I think it's likely that some species of life have developed on other planets maybe. Intelligent life is less likely, and the chances of us ever coming in contact with them are even more slim. There might be. This universe is too big to just have us.

I agree with you. It's crazy how big the universe is. It's unfathomable to mortal minds. The crazier part is that is only a small fraction of how big it all is. It makes my head spin.

It's statistically impossible that we are alone in the universe. Or so my astronomy teacher claimed, and he was usually referring to some sort of microorganism. I'm inclined to agree, considering the number of galaxies in the universe.
I think you mean "statistically improbable". It's perfectly possible for earth to be the only planet in the universe that's currently sustaining life. The probability for that to be true however is pretty small.

But then again, the probability for life to be on earth at all was pretty small to begin with...

The images of other solar systems we get are at least a couple of thousand years old. By comparison our planet has only shown any sign of life from space in the last 100 years, when us humans began lighting up entire continents at night.
Not Entirely true, The Great Wall of China is Visible from orbit and it has be around since 5th Century BC.

Back on topic, If the Universe is infinitely large then not only is it possible but very probable that not only is there life out side of earth but there may be sentient life.

While I don't believe all of the stories, I think it is extremely arogant of humans to think that we are the only intelligent species in the universe.

Personally, I do believe there has to be some other form of (hopefully intelligent) life elsewhere in this vast and unexplored galaxy/universe, although claims of them already having been here on Earth(Ancient or otherwise) is sketchy, but in the case of modern day sightings, not entirely impossible.

Anyone one who says no has some sort of complex. The same thing goes for people who say people from a different religion go to their hell. Bu back on topic, there has to be some sort of other beings even something like a space squirrel or on par intelligence wise.

I think that there is other beings out there. With how much left undiscovered there has got to be other planets that are capable of supporting some form of life.

Of course their real, I met one... or that may have just been the beer, yeah it was probably the beer. But regardless I'm positive they exist somewhere if not our own galaxy.

Microorganisms are practically a given. Multicelled, even. Sophisticated? Why not. There are likely species out there that are at a similar level of technology to us but they could be hundreds of millions of light years away.

Funnily enough, I'm still of the opinion that if we were ever to meet an alien race the first contact would probably involve a lot of horrified shrieking and arm flailing on our part with the same done by the aliens. I'm also thinking that IF (and that's a big if) we ever came across said intelligent life we would be literally incapable of communicating with them verbally and vice versa. I'm hypothesizing that if they had arms/digits then sign language would suddenly be a very important career skill for our intergalactic diplomats.

probably, it is very likely that there are microorganisms out there, maybe even some more complex forms

if they are equal to us in technology then we wouldn't know

if they are more advanced than us they probably see us as too pathetic to take notice of, like if a modern human encountered a caveman.

Possible, but if they're intelligent, they will never contact us.
We're just cool like that.
