I'm pretty much completely convinced there is some level of life on Europa, one of Jupiter's moons that's basically all ocean covered in ice. hopefully we will send something to prove/disprove that with in the next 10-20yrs =D

universe-wise there simply HAS to be aliens of some level

Well has a beliver in nihlism If I can't see it, then it doesn't exist. So basically I don't belive in them well at least not yet.
the right answer for a believer in nihilism would have been, "it doesn't matter, nothing matters."
you sure? I always thought that nihlism was that, If something can't be seen then it doesn't exist. However if your word is valid then thanks for the info I guess.

Every character in every text book in you state is approximately the number of planets, what's the odds that only our character contains life?

Perhaps they are. It is a huge place out there and we haven't really even begun to chart anything in space that is significant in the grand scheme of things.

Considering how much empty space out there that we have yet to explore, I'd bet good money that were not the only intelligent life out there.

If our species survives long enough to encounter sentient extra-terrestrials what people forget is that we will have become 'alien' to ourselves through the continuing actions of evolution, hyper-evolution through genetic-manipulation and cybernetic augmentation. If we even still have bodies by then as we may have found it more practical to transfer our consciousness into some kind of optical computer and spend the multi-generational space journeys in some constantly mutating virtual reality.

To have the arrogance to say we're the only things alive in the entirety of space is mind-blowingly stupid (i.e. a lot of religious folk).

I point people to this: http://buytaert.net/we-are-small-and-insignificant

It shows the our planet and sun in proportion to the rest of our galaxy. And then shows pics from the Hubble telescope. I wouldn't think about it too much though as it feels like your mind is literally ripping half.

After you've seen that (and considered the fact that space is infinite as far as we can guess) it's pretty hard to fight the argument that we're not 'alone'.

Technically, it's not impossible. But it's so ridiculously improbable that it wouldn't even appear in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Well the place we live in (universe) is rather large.
There's a pretty high probablity that alienz are.

I would say that alien microbial life is definetly possible. That fact that we are here is by complete chance with how far the planet is from the sun, but I would say that there is a good chance that life exists elsewhere.
I'm pretty sure the consensus amongst astrophysicists is that microbial life at the least is certain, no longer just probable :).

In fact once they get a manned mission to (I believe) Titan they are expecting to find something akin to fish beneath the ice.
The moon you're thinking of is Europa, not Titan.
OT: Didn't they already find micro bacterial life on Mars?

It's actually impossible for there not to be xenoforms of somekind... There was some equation for it I can't remember for the life of me.
