Well, I was drunk and had sex most of the time during my teens so I completely understand your mother.

And here we were, accusing video games for making teenagers violent, and in the meanwhile books made adults retarded.

Sure, teens try things, that's what they do. Hell, that's what the teens are all about, trying stuff, finding yourself, experimenting. It would be weird if teens didn't try stuff that was forbidden, as we after all are attracted to things we're not supposed to do/feel/touch/lick/taste/jump from/etc. It's in our nature as a curious race to do this. Why adults who once were young wants to sustain their youth from finding out what live tastes like, I can't really tell.

Not that I promote drugs, ridiculous amounts of sex or anything, but you catch my drift.

Besides, try telling a teenager that he/she can't have sex. It's in our nature, and nature can't be stopped!

It doesn't describe my teenage experience at all. I did sports, played guitar, had no sex, did no drugs, spent the majority of my nights reading books, playing games and getting lots of sleep.

For the most part, I really enjoyed it.

There's a huge difference between being "drug and sex crazed" and trying stuff. As a teen, your hormones are going crazy, you can fend for yourself rather well, and your parents are letting you off the leash. Of COURSE you're going to try stuff. The flip side of the coin, is that if it goes beyond trying and becomes an every day thing, where you're known as the class slut or can't feel normal unless you're stoned, that's a parenting fail. Once you're in college it's not their problem anymore, but up to that point anything that happens to you is their responsibility. Hence the freak out.

People have always looked at the younger generation with apprehension. Young people remind older people of their mortality. They are full of potential, but are also prone to experimentation with things that could possibly harm them.

So to answer your questions: Will this type of publication lead to parents being paranoid about their children? No. They already are that way, so that paranoia doesn't need to be created.

Are all teens drug addicts? No, but some are.

Are they sex addicts? Well, since there isn't a single piece of scientific evidence supporting the existence of sex addiction, I'm going to have to say that no one is a sex addict.

While I'm kind of a sex addict I never take drugs, but you have to admit the majority of teens are like that.

Between my hatred of medicine and my mom's hatred of ALL forms of smoking that rubbed off on me, my parents knew I would violently attack anyone who offer me illegal drugs. In fact, I'm almost sad I haven't had the chance.
Violently attack?

Now, perhaps this is just me, but that's morally a lot worse than sitting down with some mates and getting stoned.

Do you get angry when alcohol is advertised? Or - morally speaking - is that alright, because it's legal?
Not really, because the severity of the injuries is directly proportional to how dangerous the drug is. And for that matter, yes, I get very angry at the glorifying of alcohol because so many people are so obsessed with it and it makes me sick.
How dangerous it is? I hope you take into account the number of people taking the drug compared to the number of deaths directly caused by it, minus the number of deaths caused by impurities present in the drug solely because of the illegal, black-market criminalized nature of them. On top of this I hope you're a scientist and qualified to make a non-biased decision on the matter, otherwise that's simply you being a violent yob, and certainly no better than those dirty, dirty junkies.

How come violence is better than drugs?

Well, sex is pretty damn awesome. And drugs can be pretty fun. Addicted? Not really. It's just over-exaggeration, piling what people have done with a bit of that frenetic period when you first experience it that you go for as much as possible before you realize that it's quality over quantity.

Fucked up teenagers are pretty normal around here.

I'm 16, I drink, I get stoned and, while I'm not sex-crazed, I know people who are. Plenty of people, actually.

Basically, I'm a senior at my school. The other seniors in my school range from 16 to 18. One of them had a party last week for their 18th birthday and pretty much invited all of the seniors. I was invited too because I'm "in" with the popular people. The vast majority turned up. & the vast majority of those who turned up, left shit-faced on booze and went to someone's house where we all proceeded to get stoned and I don't doubt at all that at least half of the people who came back to that house, went and had sex with someone.

Parties like that happen pretty much every week and during the summer we spend most of our time in the park drinking.

Maaaybe that's just because we're Scottish and that's the norm around here, or maybe my school is an isolated case. I very much doubt it's the latter.

I think half of the thrill of drinking underage is the fact that you're doing it when you aren't meant to. I know I get a thrill if I get served in a pub. And as for the sex, it's probably just because we can and when you're 16/17/18 you can have sex with someone without being pretty much forced into a serious relationship because you have the defence of "I'm too young for this".

The real problem is that stories of teenagers and students doing "bad" things is hyped about much more than hearing of responsible children. If you judged this generation based solely on what you find on TV and internet news articles, you'd find us to be truly hell-spawned individuals. And you would discover the entire human race to be in accord with such proclamations. Sex, scandal, and crime sell, so that's what you'll get.

However, I'd like to think there's at least a few of us young adults who are not entirely without moral codes, sense of decency, manners, etc.

I know of kids who would fall into both categories, but way to many people blow it way out of proportion. There are plenty of teens who never do drugs or are not obsessed with sex.

As for myself, I have never done drugs and I have absolutely no interest in sex.

I was never a sex/drug addict and I'm offended that I could be considered such.

Right. And no intelligent [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Shulgin] people [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leo_Zeff] have ever [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Hofmann] taken [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edgar_Allen_Poe] drugs [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carl_Sagan], right?

Also, are you SERIOUSLY advocating KILLING over drugs now? What the fuck kind of morals do you have?

Now isn't that cute, you've got me laugh like a pothead.
You have some very strange logic, sir. Taking drugs that temporarily alters brain functions in a usually pleasurable way =/= brain damage. Show me the science to back up your claim.

Using violence to solve problems and non-problems alike? Well, that usually ends well...

Of course teens are depicted that way, it's called sensationalism. I'm pretty sure it's always been this way and I'm equally sure it always will be. I can guarantee when you're like 50 years old and have teens of your own, you'll be just as paranoid about their well being as your mom is about yours now. And probably reading just as much ill-informed literature too. That's why you got to sit down and talk to your mom and reassure her that you aren't going to be doing that shit. I know that, for a teen, the concept of actually sitting down and talking to your parents is like walking on hot coals, but believe me that's the only way your going to get them off your back.

Of course! Since when do books lie?

Its a well known fact that stock holders all jumped to their deaths in the great depression, the wild west was a blood bath, and feminists burnt their bras. Since when do text books in schools believe in BS that they never investigate?

You should probably go investigate what the a "High School bully" is. Usually, the people he picks on arent dangerous or stupid.
