I don't know that they're "manly," but I sure do dig guys who like/have cats.

I don't really think cats are gender specific.

Piss one off, see how that goes. Dogs will bite, cats will bite and scratch the hell out of you.

Case closed.
Face it just cause a lion is manly does not mean a cat is (seeing as we seem to be meaning housecats). Also, dogs can be both (godammit small dogs, stop ruining the big dogs' reputation!!!), although the big dogs (WOOT!!! big dogs) are manly while cats are womanly. Cats keep themselves pretty and don't (generally) chase balls and get dirty by rolling in the dirt after a bath. How cananyone say cats are manly when they care so much about their appearance and won't even do physical work??? Oh, and cats want to br brushed and patted and given high-quality food, and to be let out at night and they won't even chase a godamn ball if you throw one.

Face it, cats are, in no way, manly, while any dog worth the name is the pet of a manly man!!! (I have a dog)

I certainly don't.

"betraying their gender" is concept no one should take seriously

Cats:

-They don't care about anyone but themselves.
-They get their leg over at every possible oportunity.
-They only ever love you if they want food.
-They're terribly impressed with their own bollocks.

Yeah, I'd say cats are very manly.

Screw that noise, I love my cat, I don't have to walk him, play fetch, or anything like that, he just curls up on my lap and purrs when I flake out in the living room after a long day of work.

He is exactly like I could be, he sleeps 18 hours a day, and spends the rest looking for something to screw and/or eat.

I'm a guy, I fucking LOVE cats, so no, for the most part cats are more like guys than dogs are, that is to say, not giving a shit, where as dogs care about you and need you (pack animals, so instinctual), cats care about you when it suits them and while realizing they need you for the most part, if you were to disappear they wouldn't care either way (ok, they WOULD care because they grow fond of the human they are in currently residing with, but I'm makign a point here)
dogs do thay are like guys: sleep, eat, chill, screw
cats do that are like guys: all the above, but with the aforementioned not giving a shit

CATS WIN, they are more manly

i was talking to my GF today and the subject of cats came up. I have 4 and each one is a full on family member (i squirt all my family members with a watergun if they climb on the curtains or eat the houseplants).

...never questioned why, we were 8 we never questioned anything. But this is 2009, the age of the internet and lolcats and youtube. Do people still honestly think that a person's choice in pets may risk betraying their gender?
Well, to quote an engineer, the issue of men with cats is a numbers game. It works like this:
One cat. Whatever, you're just a guy with a cat.
Two cats. Well, the two are buddies and they play with each other so you don't have to, leaving you more time to do manly things like lift weights and chase women.
Three cats. Okay, now you're starting to be "That guy who's got all those cats."

Okay, there's a few other 'factors' that override these statistics. One, you've got a girlfriend, that's pretty manly in my book. I've got two cats and am currently single, so I'm in danger here. Two, what are your cats' names? If it's got "mister" in it, then there's a problem. My cats are Holst and Dusk, named for a British composer and a time of day, respectively.

Well in this modern world both boys and girls can have both, either or neither of the grand selection of cats and dogs...

Not only that I'd pretty much wager the feral car my great grandad was keeping a couple of years back was a hell of a lot more 'manly' than any chihuahua you've seen in the embrace of a hot-pink-coat-wearing... well let's not get into details.

I'm just saying things are more complexed than just 'cats' and 'dogs', it's like saying 'canines are more masculine than felines'. I sure wouldn't like being stuck in a cage with a black panther, but a tiny dog would probably be more scared of me than I am of it.

That being said in the end I'm still a dog lover, and I love my golden retriever. I know he can be 'childish' or seemingly really dumb at times, but I like the fact he has a warm hart. Cats on the other hand I just feel distant to most of the time. They do their own thing unless they need you for something.

Cats are just as manly as dogs. Just a different kind of manly.

Cats are the lone gunmen of the West, striding through wastelands.
Dogs are the loyal soldier-types that would catch a bullet for you.

Depends what quality you think is cooler.
