Dogs are manly?
Can anyone say that chihuahuas are manly and keep a straight face? Personally, I'd like to dropkick them all to next Friday!

My buddy's cat, "Orange Kitty", perhaps due to embarrassment over his ridiculous name, is the most badass feline I've ever met. He loves people but spends his waking hours destroying the neighbor's cats, dogs, the occasional possum, and generally dishing out punishment. My own cats are totally awesome, though not as much brawlers as Orange Kitty.

Why the hell does it matter? I don't get pets to express how manly I am. That's what beating my wife is for (that's a joke I assure you :p).

I cannot honestly say I've ever known anyone worry about this...but then I guess the question doesn't come up that often. I agree that cats and dogs are usually considered 'feminine' and 'masculine' respectively, but honestly I don't think that is any reflection on the owner's gender. =)

Cats ARE manly! You should see my cat. It has a scratched head because of all the fighting and I dare you to pet it (and risk losing an arm or an eye).
He's really big, black and loves a good fight with anything that moves and that includes my mother. He drinks about one litre of milk and two cans of food (that doesn't include dry food) per day and he can open doors and steal food if he's not fed. As I've said my cat is pure evil.

Now who says cats are not manly. That reminds me I have to feed him...

Cats aren't manly or effeminate.

They're just cats.
True that; Callous cat does not care...about our silly notions of masculinity or femininity. It´s us ridiculous humans who want to label things, so that they might better reflect ourselves.

I have two cats, have had for years, and I still haven´t seen them affecting the sense of my own sexuality in anyway. Maybe I´m just in denial.

But, however I may regard our feline friends, that does not stop people from projecting human characteristics to non-human subjects. Generally speaking, cats seem to be regarded as feminine creatures. Nothing I can do about it.

You know whats manly? Being secure in your masculinity. If you don't care about what others think on your masculinity, that makes you manly. In a way. Sometimes.

I personally love cats...There very intelligent creatures...and I don't think that we have to consider something manly because its small or furry or stuff like that...I have seen men who work out in a gym all day but still like animals like bunnies and turtles...I just don't see a point in calling some animals manly...

Cats behave more like women, i.e. they're hyper hygenic, they can take care of themselves, they're observant, they relish freedom, they enjoy curling up on the sofa, it's very obvious when they're pleased with you, it's even more bloody obvious you've pissed them off when you've got talon marks down your face, and they do not enjoy other cats coming on their territory uninvited. But, surely by logic if cats act like women, would that not suggest they are the ideal pet for a man, considering how the great cliché is for a manly man to brag about "his woman".

i never really cared much how manly things were supposed to be. i have simply always liked cats and been thoroughly scared of dogs.

i have no idea how to determine the manliness of something anyway.

They are natural born ninjas, like me. They are manly. Also they are the best gamers, they have 9 lives.

I bolded what's stupid in the post. take away my freedom and you'll get fucked round sideways, frontways, anyways. Observant? Yeah, that applies to only and all women... (upon re-reading I found I had to clarify that was drenched in sarcasm) and they take care of themselves? you gotta be kidding me, I know there are gems out there and I promise you I appreciate the ones that shine but so many women I know are incompetent, I love them for it, but its true.

I'm not trying to say women are any less then men (my point has always remained that they are merely different, actually superior if you consider how pathetic most males are when it comes to sexuality), but those traits are either shared or more dominant in men which completely obliterates your point. (to me atleast)

The reason cats are considered feminine is cause of their figure and the way they move.

(btw I didn't mean to seem offensive if you found it so, feel free to argue)

This made my day xD

And on the topic: I can see how cats could be considered affeminite (spelling?), but i dont see it that way, cause i love cats, and hate dogs pretty much.

I wasn't implying those traits aren't observed in men, just like you can get hyper hygenic men and slovenly women, but as I said before you decided to wear your ass as a hat, there was no offence intended, and I was using the great cliché of men and women, which I'd like to point out I believe in not one iota.

As you said, so many women you know are incompetent? The same can be said for men I know, who wouldn't know what to do with a vaccuum if it read its instructions aloud for them, but I didn't mention a damn word insulting men, I mentioned a grand total of one male trait, and I even specified that the type of man I was speaking of was the enormously clichéd, beer swilling, bragging, lout that so few men really are.

Furthermore, I do not need the idiot's guide to why cats seem feminine, thank you very much. I was talking about the inner workings not the external picture.

ok, this is kinda poor research (gave up reading posts halfway trough page 1), so i might be repeating someone elses words right now, but how can you :
1. Compare big feline predators with the Cat, its like preparing the chihuahua to a timberwolf ?!
2. Use scratching as a way of calling cats masculine, when not a single one of you would (most likely) ever agree to that a human scratching in a fight was acting masculine?

sometimes, i forget why i read forums.

It really depends on what you call your cat, if you call it Sparta that's manly. But calling it Princess Fluffle Sparkle Kitty, that's not manly. That's hilarious =D

Dogs lick your face and whine.

Cats hunt small furry animals and bring them to your doorstep bloody and half eaten.
