Are concerts really that brutal?

I couldn't believe that the most brutal concert I've ever been to was Biffy Clyro. I guess us Biffy fans are so... passionate that we truly go fucking mental lol. I took my gf and spent the whole gig protecting her from the manic moshers and crowd surfers that I barely did anything but punch people who shoved her

It can be very brutal, but everybody doesn't completely lose it and try to eat the brains of the guy next to them. Usually when people get knocked down or worse, everyone who saw it happen tries to help the person out. Nobody really wants to get destroyed.

But you do have to watch out for those people who try to start stupid crap in a pit. These are the same kind of people who go to bars or parties and try to start fights, just because they are trying to prove something. But usually everyone is just there to have a good time, so just keep your guard up and you should be okay. And don't just jump in head first, check out the scene before hand (learned that one the hard way; my nose has been crooked ever since XD).

It depends on who you're gong to see and where you're gonna stand.

Metal gigs I've found to be less brutal than teeny pop gigs. Teeny poppers (ie My Chemical Romance fans) will kill you to be a few extra inches closer to their idols. Metal heads (ie Slayer) will usually just yell for a bit and move over if you say please. and yeah, that's from experience.

Standing closer to the front increases your risk of being crushed, but other then that, if you watch out for mosh pits around your area, there's no problem whatsoever.

Happy gig going!

I'm not good with foreign measuring.
Why use foreign measuring? Just use cm and kg. The internet is international after all.
I for one has no idea how big you are now, as I am bad with foreign measuring myself.

I hate moshers. It's stupid and pointless. They just end up looking like tools and getting hurt while everyone else is enjoying the music.

I had to leave a Nine Inch Nails show a few weeks ago because the mosh pit was to crazy and I got caught right in the middle of it.

I didn't really leave, just got out of the mosh pit

You won't regret it. I came for ZP, but stayed for... Well, ZP, but what I didn't expect was one of the friendliest forums with real intellectual conversations.

Also, I don't have the size or muscles for moshpit or wall of death. I'll probably die by both.
Yeah there do in general seem to be a lot of excellent people around here :)

And yeah I tend to try and keep on the edge of pits, however if you end up in the middle, it'll still be okay as long as no-one pulls a knife lol :p

Seriously though I prefer keeping my face intact, so I don't go looking for pits and walls of death

It all depends. If you're at a venue with a couple tiers you can usually get away with just chilling on the upper tier and watching the gig. If you're on the floor, you either need to be wary of any pits that develop, especially if they happen wo be full of the sort of fucktards who don't follow pit etiquette (example, if you knock someone over, FUCKING PICK THEM UP, people don't go to a show to get trampled). Generally I find you can avoid the pits by either hugging the front railing or chilling in the back. Of course if you get a wall of death then best hope you're closer to the outer rim of the venue :p

Concerts are safe depending on what you do at them. If you plan on moshing .. you are likely going to have a few wounds heh. And it depends on the music, rock concerts aren't as hardcore as like death metal concerts and such. But if you stay in the safe areas you should be fine... and just follow that weird smokey smell in there and find the guy creating it, and likely he will share :) After that, the last thing you will want to do is bounce around amongst arm flailing hooligans heh.

Okay, that was sick, the band actually encouraged it! Suddenly lost all my respect for Lamb of God.
a lot of bands encourage people to mosh, circle pits, wall of death etc. at reading festival a year or two back there was a circle pit of like a couple thousand people, all encouraged by Lostprophets. normally there isnt someone who stands in the middle.

If you're standing close to the front and pretty central, there's bound to be some kind of semi-violent dancing going on.

Pretty much anywhere else and you'll be alright, but it depends on the band.
