I didn't get any pix... YET.

Thunder, I'm looking at you.
Oh stop being an asshat. Would you be okay with this request if the situation was reverse?
Yes, because in both cases it'd be painfully sarcastic.

Context, my dear... CONTEXT!

And yes it is okay. Who said they had to be nasty? =p [http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/14/l_2aafb21e66cb11c77307a345636bd678.jpg]

Much more worrying that stupid or sloth is rising levels of narcissism.

For a good example of a narcissist, see Bill O'Reilly. Colbert is an actor/comedian who is portraying a classic narcissist also

Blame the Scary Movie franchise (or any movie made by the Wayans brothers, in fact), but leave Jeff Dunham out of it. He is hillarious, and is a slightly deeper comic than some give him credit for.

To answer the thread, yes....people are getting dumber. Blame Paris Hilton and Global Warming.

Culturally, yes, we are getting dumber. Language and other arts are being tossed wayside for the sake of "right now" entertainment, but by and large the human race is not any more stupid than any prior generations. You really have to look at what society pushes on its offspring as the leading factor in our decline. Whereas it was once an honor to attend a university and be considered a scholar, it is now this expected experience that takes a backseat to being an athlete or getting your five minutes of fame on youtube or american idol. One day our increasingly impetuous behavior will lead to our own demise as we develop better and faster ways to destroy ourselves, that's why it's important to look at yourself and evaluate your own actions and ensure that your children are equipped with the necessary tools to appreciate concepts like honor, hard work, and respect.

Thunder: Do people think otherwise?
MKG: impetuous or petulant instead of impetulant, but cool hybrid word

If you have time for a 20 minute lecture... (c'mon, it's not that bad)

http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/barry_schwartz_on_our_loss_of_wisdom.html

This is Barry Schwartz, commenting on our loss of "practical wisdom." Sometimes, he says, the bureaucracy and social norms that control basically all our decisions HAVE to be broken. The wise person "knows how and when to make the exception to every rule." However, we've been very well trained to make NO exceptions, and that is where this "loss of wisdom" springs from.

Paris Hilton? Um....wasn't the last time we heard from her back in like....'07? I don't see what Global Warming has to do with anything in this case.

There will always be people out there being stupid or doing stupid things. With the internet it is much easier to find these stupid people and why it appears the number of them are growing. I believe its fairly consistent.

I think all people need for proof that people are getting dumber is to look at the state of the gameing and the music industry's.

Mental degradation is just a part of the world, now. Education should be getting much better, and yet every day I see more and more people doing and saying stupid things. Hardly anyone under the age of eightteen bothers to spell anything correctly. To me, that is just wrong. Their parents are paying for them, for their educations, so they can make something of themselves. Instead, they choose to spend their time by doing stupid things and costing their parents even more than they've already paid.

I don't think that people are getting dumber, just the opposite in fact. The problem is that because there are more smart people around we are able to modify our environment more and at a more rapid pace. Technology keeps improving in leaps and bounds, and since it's hard to keep up with things, there's always bound to be people making 'stupid' mistakes. However, this kid who shot out a truck window to get at the contents is a moron. Guns make loud noises.
I hope he's in the Darwin Awards for that.

Darwin awards require the 'winner' to eliminate themselves from the gene pool. While a life prison sentence could potentially fulfill this requirement, it seems unlikely in the dummy's case. If he'd shot his genitals off with said gun, then yeah, we'd be looking at a Darwin.

Oh yes, I'd forgotten about that bit. Ah well, eventually he'll be eligible, but we all will have forgotten him by then.

I must disagree with isolated incident. Why? Honestly with a dad getting sued by his own daughter and the daughter winning, The world not listening to the problems of climate change, over-population, extinction of species, terrible quality of air/water in many places. The list goes on and on and we are doing so little to actually fix any of it.

I believe this more goes along with a kid being stupid, because honestly in the first place how is he even allowed to have a gun in the damn streets? Is it something that falls under the category "Only in America" hmmm?

Honestly -1 for parenting, -1000 for corporal punishment vanishing, and just and epic fail.

People aren't getting dumber, its just that history only remembers the smart or at least determinedly-dumb people.
