Local Co-op is superior in every way. So... yeah. I mean, it sucks that it's not really there, but let's not hurt Nintendo by making them go too far outside of their comfort zone.

I bring this up because Hyrule warriors won't have Online support but local player co-op. Also in Mario Kart * you can't talk in the Lobby. On the one hand it would be nice for more Nintendo games to use the internet. I loved Tetris DS internet service and is probably one my faovrite things about the DS.This was back in 2006 and I was amazed that I could play with Japanese Players half way across the world. On the other hand there is so much crap you have to go through while going online these days. Updates signing into your online account, your EA or Ubisoft account, adds for DLC and a bunch of other crap. Not to mention dealing with people on the internet.

I'm at the point where I'm like if a game has online support nice. If it doesn't oh well.
How about you all?
Dynasty Warriors games always had horrible online, if they had any at all.

I'm pretty two way about this.

I mean when I buy a game it is mainly for single player reasons, unless the game is actually made as a multiplayer title. I mean NintendoLand has 3 very great local multiplayer games which I play regularly with friends, same goes for the SmashBros games. Then again games like Xenoblade, Batman, Assassins Creed, Tales of games etc are all single player games and I buy them so I can play them.

But with todays technology, and seeing how well (for me at least) the online in MarioKart works I am a bit sad they didn't include online co-op in Hyrule Warriors since that would be really fun to play with some friends, from this site for example.

We all know at least SmashBros and Splatoon will be online focused. So I wonder why they didn't include it in this one, even if only to see how the online will work in a fast paced hack n slash on their servers.

I don't care much for online multiplayer, it's usually a case 'sounds good on paper but people are asshats'.

I was already planning on getting a WiiU and MK8 but this just makes me want to play online.
There is one way you can talk in the lobby of MK.
That is when you create a "server?" (game/lobby/room???) where only people from your friendlist can join. Then microphones are available for use. But not when playing with random people.

I also don't mind not having the talk thing. Sure it would be easy to have a on/off button so you can choose if you want to hear people or not but I don't really mind it not being there.

Actually, I kind of like that there is a console out there more focused on couch co-op. When it comes to Nintendo, all my interests are singleplayer plus I think much of its demographic is young so local co-op is probably more suitable. I wouldn't mind seeing better online capabilities but I don't really hold that as a point against a Nintendo console. I will say with the splash they made out of Splatoon it makes me wonder what avenue they are trying to chase. If they are going to play with online, they have a lot of work to do, I'll give you that. Otherwise, it will just be dead weight and all will be in vane. For me personally, I am not interested in any Ips through Nintendo for multiplayer. It's rare I even care about multiplayer outside of Nintendo.

What can I say, I have never had my stuff stolen so I never had a need to backup my Gamecube saves to a PC. You know, my Gamecube memory cards still have all my save data on them. If I went and bought Luigi's Mansion again, the save file would work just fine. Not sure why a PC backup is really necessary.
Dude you've never had smash brother's data get corrupted. That shit makes you want to cry. Plus I hated When you would feel up a gamecube memory card and have like four memory cards. Then Flip through each one to see which memory card has the right Data. Now if you run out memory, you get a bigger hard drive and save all the Data on to one thing.
I guess I have been lucky, I just don't lose save files. Have you ever run into locked saves? You can't transfer them to another console.
Nall but I did have the thing where gamecube wouldn't allow you to make more then one save of Pokemon games because they didn't want you to clone pokemon. Which I think is B.S. because I'm just going to go take my money and buy a gameshark.

No... I don't feel confortable with the lack of support, not because many games don't have any online, but because those that do seems to be designed in the 90s.

But since this is Nintendo, a lot of people are defending their missteps as "features"... The same way it happened with Sony during the last generation and the lack of achievements: Nobody cared about them, until they started including trophies.

I haven't even tried to play anything online on my WiiU. When it comes to multiplayer on consoles I'm far more interested in couch co-op with my friends and housemates. WiiU totally rocks for that, so yeah, I'm okay with that.

I don't mind online multiplayer (tho I don't do it often) but I thought I was the only gamer that was baffled by forced online only multiplayer. Glad to know I'm not alone on this.

If you don't mind me asking, how did someone steal ₤150 from you on XB live?

At least on PS3 trophies kind of sucked. I say this because I tired to 100% a game to get a trophy my Data got corrupted had to redo the game. I still didn't get the trophy. I never had that problem with 360 or Steam. Also I think Nintendo's defense for no including Achievements or trophies is because they don't want to dictate how you play the game. There are a couple Trophies or Achievements that are B.S and require to cheat the system or play how you wouldn't normally play to achieve them.

Is Tales that much fun as a co-op game? I played it solo and I thought that the battles were over too quickly for co-op gameplay to truly kick-off (since all the co-op you do is fighting).
Sorry for the late replay. I tend to do less online stuff during the weekend.

Yes, yes, and oh yes. Some of the best local co-op sessions I ever had have been with the tales series. There are two points I want to expand on to answer your question.

1.) My favorite childhood game was Streets of Rage 2 on the 2nd model Sega Genesis. I love co-op fighters. My favorite arcade game was Die Hard. Every time I went to an arcade I would hunt it down. I wish more games were made like those. It would be awesome if Die Hard were ported to PC/consoles. So, for me, just fighting with friends is great for me.

2.) Tales is a JRPG (Not to talk down to you. I'm sure you're familiar with the genre). Different characters have different classes or playing styles. The second time I played Tales of Symphonia it was with my best friend. He played as Genis, a pure caster, while I played as Lloyd, a front-line fighter. (Side note: those in game characters were also best friends. Interesting observation). My point is, there are a mix of characters for every Tales game that fight long range, close range. There are also characters who can vary between close, mid and long such as Kratos and Sheena.

The game can be challenging for the most part. Yes there were some easy fights but it wasn't because I wasn't playing solo. I played Symphonia solo the first time and the situations I found challenging then were still challenging with a friend. Of course you have to take into account that with other people playing you're going to have more ideas on fighting strategies and solving puzzles from the perspectives of your fellow players.

That is hardly the point. I am sorry you had a crappy experience with the trophies in one game, but that is hardly Sony's fault. Their synchronization is crap, though...
Nintendo can give the option to third party developers to have achievements or not, online support or not, but they still have to provide a robust platform for those features. Yet all the architecture they have looks like it was designed on the early ages of the web. I know it sounds cliche, but Nintendo really doesn't "get Internet", and stories in these forum about save transfers, store purchases or lobby support confirms all that.
At this point, I don't think we will get simple features like saves transfer until at least next generation, which is kind of B.S. for the Wii U. The previous generation was released in 2005, so it is fair not to ask them for modern online functionalities, but having a new console on this decade without having some features people consider ubiquitous is baffling...

It was a couple of years ago now, but I had a credit card associated with my account so that I could buy things on XBL. I very rarely used the 360 however, one game every few months perhaps and it was during a lull I suppose that my account was hacked. I don't know how but a hacker, somewhere, got access to my account and since I had my CC details stored, they were able to buy stuff with my card, to the value of £150, which then got gifted around the place.

So I had this charge on my card statement, checked my XBL to find these purchases made in my history but which I didn't make and immediately called MS customer services. They said they would investigate which took some time (maybe a week, two, something like that) and at the end of the investigation said they had found "no wrongdoing" and wouldn't refund me. My credit card protection too wouldn't help, saying that MS's conclusion in this instance said there was no basis for a claim. So I was left to pay off a substantial bill for purchases I never made. I cannot describe how much resentment I felt at that; I had to consciously, willingly, pay £150 to a thief, for nothing, into thin air.

In my mind, MS defended the hackers that stole my money over a customer of several years. They chose to keep the £150 they got from me by theft rather than refund it, keep a customer and who would in all likelihood have spent much more than that since. I will never use their subscription service again.

I can hope others might learn from my experience and stop using a service that allows this to happen, but without a soapbox like Jim Stirling's, I realise that's foolish. But if I can give any advice to someone who must use it, don't store any credit/debit cards on there, don't use cards on it under any circumstances. Buy points cards from other retailers/e-tailers, and load up the account with codes. That way the most that can be stolen should your account be compromised is whatever balance is left on it. Two factor authentication, if possible, is also recommended to help keep undesirables out.
