i dont think they are hated that much. like smokers arent spat on or beaten up.

but smokers do stink alot, damage theirs and everyone around thems health and smell. also smoking is one of the stupidest habits.

you smoke to releave the effects of your withdrawals from smoking. it creates the problem and offers the solution in one handy tube.

the reason i dislike smokers is partly cause they smell (have i mentioned that?) and partly because it is so pointlessly useless. with drinking you drink and feel all nice and warm and stuff(positive effect). with smoking you smoke and fell all normal and stuff cause all smoking does is get rid of the withdrawal effects(removes the negative effect that it creates).
The smell from smokers is something you've made up in your mind and I've noticed it alot while there is definitely a smell from them Non smokers make it out that they smell like a garbage heap based solely upon their own mental tricks they must use to demonize smoking I've tested it I smoke often and my friends whom I hang out comment on the smell I have specifically worn freshly cleaned clothes, washed thoroughly and did not smoke at all before I met up with them at a bar I went outside like I had went to smoke but didn't and when I came back they made the same comments man you and your cigarette smell...

the same with teeth staining as long as you have a consistant teeth brushing regimine, floss and use mouthwash cigarettes will never stain your teeth just like strong coffee.
smoker cant smell it becouse there used to it.the smell isnt made up and it smells terrible

A little I would say. Where I live, you can't smoke in bars or restaurants, which I'm fine with, but now its you can't smoke something like within ten meters of an entrance to a public building. That's pushing it. I think I've even heard of them trying to ban smoking in public parks which I think is going way too far.

If the actual smoke bothers them that they are completely fine with not wanting anything to do with them.
If they refuse to know them on a 'moral' basis then yes it's stupid.

i wouldn't like it in a romantic partner though, since kissing a smoker is like licking an ash tray
Ever lick an ashtray? serious question because I have heard the lick and kiss with ashtray many many times and i find it to be quite funny. the flavor of an ashtray is completly different from the flavor of smoke residue on a partners lips. one tastes horrid and the other isnt bad just different but might not be to your liking like some people despise mint.
no, it's just what i've heard... i've kissed girls who smoke before and just didn't find it pleasant.. i suppose the tobacco smoke residue on their tongue threw me off it really wasn't a taste i liked.. probably part of the reason i didn't smoke

Yeah I think so. And to people complaining about the smell. Not all cigarette smell bad and it probably has to do with taste.
Example for me

Marlboro Special Blend? Delicious
Camel Blues? EW

Because being overweight is much more damaging then smoking. Seen any chronically obese people past their mid 50's lately? Didn't think so.
listen im not saying smoking is like the great evil that needs to be destroyed.but its a choice while eating something is a neccesity may it be fast food or not. thus it makes it void in this conversation

No, because people who are smokers don't seem to know what they are doing to the people around them. My mother is a smoker and she just doesn't seem to know how painful it is to watch her rot before my eyes.

Their habit may be illogical but it's one of their weaknesses.
We all have weaknesses.
Second thread I visited in a couple of weeks due to work and my response is given in the first response.

Lots of my friends smoke. I really don't care. It's their lives.

I will hold it against someone only if I'm dating them. It's not even too serious unless they're just super addicted, in which case the feelings would have to be really up there for me to deal with such a thing. I try to better myself everyday, I don't see why someone I'm with shouldn't have the same goal.

It's a human tongue, it's not meant to taste nice, you're actually mere millimeters away from it being cannibalism. If, when you kiss someone, you're reminded of your favourite meal you've got far more to worry about than if it tasted like smoke.

It's her life, not yours, if she want's to rot.. so be it.

With that being said. It is a romantic deal breaker for me, not a friendship one. I won't be romantically involved with a smoker, kissing one is disgusting.

Most of the people I know don't care, or smoke themselves. Really why anybody would worry about what others choose to do to relax is beyond me. It's not like smokers are actively trying to get other people to smoke like they teach you in grade school. And while I can't argue with someone who says they won't feel any sympathy for someone who gets lung cancer because of it, I would imagine that if they were faced with a situation in their actual lives where a close friend had lung cancer they would feel much differently.

These arguments often turn into stupid hypothetical that are besides the point, so let me just say that there is certainly a considerate way to be a smoker. The people who leave cigarette butts everywhere or blow smoke into someone else's face are incredibly rude. But like most anything else, it's not fair to generalize.

i have nothing against the choice to smoke and i hold no issues with friends that smoke, though i wont date a smoker again. my big issue is when smokers expect benefits for smoking. For example - i work with smokers. they whine and complain constantly about how busy work was and how tired they were, take at least one smoke break every hour which lasts upwards of 15 minutes each and still complain about the work, refuse to let me have a break for any reason while letting all smokers get a break, and then start complaining how they didn't get any breaks at all. That kind of attitude pisses me off. smoking does not give you privileges, its just a choice.

In my experience, too many smokers fully realise how annoying their habit is to others. People smoking makes my eyes hurt, and I can smell the stench up to an hour later if someone smoked somewhere indoors.

To name you one example, I've gotten into an altercation with some idiot who was smoking right outside the exit of the hospital, right under a sign saying smoking is prohibited.
Was he outdoors and the sign referring to indoors? How small was the exit that your wife couldn't walk around him? Your story isn't too clear. Because its kind of painting you as the more militant one. non smoker here just so you know.
Where I live, it's a state law. You can be fined and spend a few days in county for smoking on a hospital campus.

I was recently reading a thread that asked the question: "what are your deal breakers?" I noticed there was a very large amount of people who claimed smoking was an instant deal breaker, no matter the person, some even going as far as saying they would not even befriend someone who was a smoker.

Now I don't smoke myself, but am I the only person who thinks people are way too harsh on smokers? I find it shocking that so many people are willing to shun someone over one habbit. It seems to me smokers are one of the relatively few groups people are willing to openly hate.

What are your thoughts on the topic?
No, its not too harsh. Smoking is a habit that impacts others. Smokers smell, all the time. Their homes smell, all the time. And they taste like ashtrays when you go to kiss them. I've tried dating them, its unpleasant.
So is it okay to treat someone who wears too much cologne all the time that harsh?

and I suppose eats too many onions or something for the taste hahah
I have an issue with that where I work, I just report people who wear too much smelly good stuff to the manager. Since I work in a hospital it get's fixed pretty fast.

It isn't just her life. It is mine to, and everyone else's. When she dies, parts of me, my dad and my sister are going with her. Thats what happens when you are a part of a family.
