Are people's pets dying?

Okay, so in the past 2 weeks, three different friends had three different pets die. My own pet snake died four months ago while I was away at camp, and I know of several other people who are having pets just dropping dead. What I want to know is if this is just some crazy phenomena only restricted to people I know, or has anyone else had any strange situations recently where pets have just been dying.

Edit: I forgot to mention that the other people whose animals died don't precisely know what's killed them. By the time my father got my snake to the doctor, she had already been dead for several days so the Vets couldn't figure out how or why.

This is kind of an odd thread to come across, as we had to put my dog, who we've had for 12 years, down on Tuesday. It sucked.

Oh, and word of advice. If you put a pet down, do NOT have your hand on their heart when the vet injects them. It's not a pleasent feeling, as I found out the hard way.

One of my cats died recently (as in, a couple weeks ago at most) for, well, no-one's been able to find out why, to be honest. And he was the youngest, too.

My friend's cat is still alive and he's 19 years old. I don't know what we are going to do when he does die. My car isn't working and we live in apartments.

Presuming there is access to a garbage bag and dumpster, I have a good idea of what I'd do.

Call me callous, but if you work on some sort of animal farm you get over death pretty quickly.

Hmm, I had a cat of 7 years die about two months ago because of a brain tumor.

Could it be related?

My dog Deirdre is still alive after 15 years. I think it's because she drinks our pool water. It must be the secret key to doggy immortality.

It's very hot where I'm at and the garbage services take a while. I think I'll put him a bag and toss him over the fence.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
Kinda weird, last time we had a big pet die off it was because of the pet food, see all the pet food we get here is made in china by one company and distributed by one company under many different labels here, something contaminated the grain (I think) that was used in the food so allot of pets died, hopefully there isn't another contamination going on.

My Wife's a vet. There have been no recent influx of animal deaths. So, my condolences, but it's not an epidemic.

Well I guess I can be the killjoy devil advocate you all throw apples at. Nope. Millions of millions of people have millions and millions of pets. Sheer numbers and random chance mean you have a run of pets dying in a quick succession.

Well... My four cats died when my house burned down back in February this year :(. But yeah, no, it's just coincidence. I can't imagine there's actually more animals dying than normal this year.

Yea, that's illegal where we live :p Anything bigger then a hamster, or small bird has to be disposed of properly, pretty big fines for that kind of thing.

A few months back we had an older cat pass on. I still miss her, but nothing in the last couple weeks really. Sorry to hear about all the recent losses though, even for friends and family.

Is it too early to copyright "Pet-pocalypse?"

I kid, I kid. But no, my idiotic dog is still alive and happy... and eating my bedsheets right now, probably.

One of my fish just died. my other animals are still alive and doing fine, my dog is 15 and still gets mistaken for a puppy when I take him for a walk (He's a sheltie and I get his hair cut short in the summer ).

I'd hate to be the guy who has to dig through trash bags to find the dead animals then. If you throw it out with the rest of your trash then who will know? Just be sure to coat it with lime to seal in the freshness for those long stretches between pickups.

there's probably a good chance that a lot of people had an animal recently die because of the site's population, though I'm always in the mood for a good conspiracy :)

People's pets are always dieing. I work at a vets office and it's rare to not have at least one euthanasia a day.

My cousin's cat actually did die rather recently. But my cat and many of my friends' pets are still alive.

I'd say it's all happenstance.
