Coincidence. And pets dying. It's generally known that living creatures eventually die--days of immortality seem to have passed us by. Once the expiration date is hit, yeah, death usually is the runner up.

Well, the last time I had a pet die was around 2 years ago, but I still have a weird story that involves pet death.

See, my family can only own 2 pets at a time. Not one, not 3, only 2. The easiest way to prove[footnote]not really[/footnote] this is to tell you how my pet ownership has played out.

When I was born, my parents already had two dogs, Jake and Ally. Then Ally got cancer and had to be put down. Around 2 months later, a stray literally just shows up on our doorstep and WAITS. We have no idea how long she was there before we noticed her.

All attempts to locate her owner fail, so now we have Jake and Zara. After a few more years, Jake dies of old age. This next bit is totally normal because just decide to adopt a dog from...well, an organization that lets people adopt dogs. So now we've got Zara and Luke.

Now it gets weird again. See, my friend has to move to a smaller house because of some unfortunate circumstances, and his relatively large dog Goofy can't come with. So, rather then give him to the pound, he asks my family to take him in, you know, so he can still him from time to time.

So a few months after THAT, out of NOWHERE, Luke, who is in the prime of his life (only 8 years old or so) just fucking DIES. He's sick for a day, and then he's dead before the next morning.

I know. This conspiracy is obviously the work of the Moon Templars. What separates them from the normal Templars?

Oh, you don't want to know.

Well, alright here. Haven't heard of anyone else recently either. I think given the number of us, and the fact that most pets are not long lived, that this sort of trend isn't that out there. Discomforting, yes. Impossible, no.

Really freaked me out though since I'm getting close to the end of Thomas Harris' Red Dragon and the murderer always kills the pet first...

Nope. My pets are fine. The only connection between all the dead animals around seems to be... you. Have you considered that you might be an incarnation of death? If so I know several people who want to give you a congratulatory handtouch! (50 billion points for the reference I'm thinking of).

Every living creature is dying. I'm dying, you're dying, my cat is dying, etc. The only difference is that we are all dying at different paces.

Over a long enough timeline the survival rate for everyone drops to zero.

No one I know, myself included, has had any pets die in months or more.

Maybe your state is cursed or something.

Yep. Your government is out to ruin your life by killing you and the people you care for's pets. Then it will bump up to grandparents. Then aunts/uncles. Then cousins. Then it will bump up to siblings. Then up to parents. Then finally the government will get out of their vans and hold you against the wall as tehy give put a gun to your head and tell you to stop being so paranoid. Then they'll give you a candy and drive off like nothing happened, because clearly the world is out to get you.

... Maybe that was a bit much, sorry.

Oka honestly, yes, yes I imagine pets are dying. Just like people are dying everday. because death happens, EVERY DAY. just like life and birth happens everyday.

though if my dog suddenly dies, I hope he goes out like a man, otherwise my other dog will just laugh at it fromt he depths of hell.

My Wife's a vet. There have been no recent influx of animal deaths. So, my condolences, but it's not an epidemic.
Which war did she fight in?
Har har.

She's a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. There, is that better?
