Do European gov'ts make it more expensive to do business or just hate the electronic entertainment industry ?

There's lots of reason why prices are higher in the EU. There's exchange rate, what with the Euro and Pound being more expensive than US Dollar and Yen, the fact goods have to be shipped from the Far East, travelling through the national waters of many countries, incurring tariffs along the way (including Egypt's Suez Canal, which from what I can gather ain't cheap), various import taxes and duties when they arrive in the EU (which are higher than say, clothes or food, since consumer electronics are luxury items), VAT when they're sold at retail (currently 20% here in the UK, can't speak for rest of Europe) and retailers add their own markup to make as big a profit as they can.

Then there's the rising fuel prices which will make first shipping, then road haulage increasingly expensive, then consider that the goods might change hands several times between manufacturers, suppliers and distributers, each charging for their services, before the goods see retail.

Basically, I can't see racism factor into it at all. Though we Europeans have shown in the past that we're willing to pay the higher price asked for games, consoles and other electronic gizmos before, so that probably means prices aren't likely to fall any time soon.

I heard Nintendo of Europe left the 3DS price in the hands of the retailer giving a RRP of around £220 (Maybe more or less), in the UK anyway. Over priced? Definitely. This isn't just tax being added on here.

That's how the economy works.

It's not just the price of the item you're buying but the shipping costs and other costs on top of importing it (which will include it being taxed on the way in, which adds more to the cost of importing) then there's the tax on the item itself, the road tax on getting it to the store in the first place along with fuel prices and other taxes for transport in greener countries like the U.K. where we tax HGVs to keep the CO2 footprint down. There's also the percentage that the company takes out of the price along with the percentage that the store takes out of it.

Its got nothing to do with "race" or whatever, it's more to do with the fact that certain places charge more than other because that's just how things go.

It's all relative. Direct currency comparison is useless until you factor in taxes and regional pay. Food and drink in Nairobi is far cheaper, by direct exchange, than it is in Paris, but that doesn't mean that people can afford more in Africa.

Stuff is cheaper in the US than the UK, but the standard of living equals out (roughly). That's one of the main reasons a global currency is a good idea

Americans and Japanese people are just poor and cant afford expensive games so game devs sell them cheaper there meanwhile Europeans and Australians are rich as fuck and can afford to pay 1000?/$ for a single game, but oh wait neither Americans or Japanese people are poorer that Europeans or Australians so I have no idea why games are expensive in Australia and Europe

And why does everyone hate Americans? It's not like the people in Europe are really any different from those in the U.S.
Trust me, I've been to America for several months, it is VERY different; and I only live in the UK!

A publisher will normally give a game at a relatively similar price to all countries, the only reason for the relative increase in price as mentioned by the OP is what we get charged in import duty and the load of other taxes the products go through to be sold.

It might be because your country is importing these products and tariffs might be involved? I'm not really sure, maybe they just want to milk you of your money which means they aren't racist but are greedy.

There are a couple of things at play here. Firstly, you are TOTALLY IGNORING the fact that the US dollar has had a price collapse in comparison to the Euro. Secondly, Europe is a long way away from the point of production and you wind up paying more for shipping.
Yeah Europe is more far away, but then how do you explain that I can order the same product from America and even with the added shiping costs and taxes it will still be cheaper than buying it from a local store ?
The only thing preventing me to do that is that 3ds is region locked.

Yes we are. And to put it in a nutshell, the main difference is that Europeans aren't perceived as yelling "WE'RE #1! WHOOOOOOO!" in people's faces all the time.

Don't get me wrong, I have American family members, and I lived in Chicago for quite some time and loved it, but there is a world of difference between Americans and Europeans. Not saying that one is "better" than the other, but we are very different.
It's basically arrogance versus disdain. Not as different as you might like.

What is your average domestic income?

Here id say around $30,000-$50,000 per person.

If you're making about the same in euro, than the price is fair, if not, well sux to be you guys :(

Its not about the exchange rate, its about the relative cost to income. (although the american based publishers are making a killing selling to yall on that matter lol)

Plus aren't all europeans rich?

[small]if you didn't catch the sarcasm in that last line, you're command of english is lacking[/small]
Unfortunately it's less.
Depending on the country, the two extremes are these:

lowest average : 8400 euros
highest average: 21400 euros

(based on average month's wage multiplied 12 times.)
