Does anyone else feel this way? Cause there hasn't been a decent RPG for quite a few years. The only recent RPG I can think of that made an impression on me was Lost Odyssey.

Oh, if anyone does think this. Do you reckon the new Final Fantasy installments will revive this genre?

Over and Out.

Personally, I've disliked the majority of new RPG's I've played. Because I've played 2 from this generation. And since they were made by the same company, they weren't VERY different. However I think that the new RPGs have much to offer to the RPG fans.

Persona 4 came out this year and Dragon Age: Origins is coming out next month; next year there are two Final Fantasies coming out alongside Mass Effect 2.

I'm not so sure the RPG genre is dying, and for the moment there are still good looking RPGs coming out that are getting a lot of advertsiment, and there's enough interest in the genre that it won't die completely in the next few years at least.

Oblivion and Fallout 3 was good, but the story lines in the two weren't good in my opinion.

I'm not an expert on the whole thing by the way. Just wondering what other people think.

RPGs are not dying out. They're as strong as ever. Oblivion is a good RPG, and Golden Sun will be as well.

Not to be an ass, but I think thats more of a psuedo RPG. Ah well.

I don't think they're dying. I'm still in love with Oblivion. *Cradles it in his arms.*

Bioshock isn't an RPG... is it?
The last RPG I can remember enjoying other than Fallout 3 would have to be final fantasy 2. The new FF games are like movies with a few interactive parts....

What about the upcoming Bioware releases? Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age: Origins? Alpha Protocol? Age of Decadence?

It seems to depend on which style of RPG you prefer. Western flavor tends towards sandbox setups and "other genre with RPG elements," where JRPGs fall more on the linear side. Open-ended (but sometimes shallow) story choices vs. tried-and-true (but not always rehashed to death) cinematic runs.

At least, that's my amateur take on it all.

Edit: Final Fantasy seems more interested in getting prizes for effort by digging further than the standard six-foot requirement of a good grave.

Fallout 3, Fable II. It's just that the popular ones are overshadowing the others.

No, because they're in the wrong genre.
JRPG =/= RPG.
Shouldn't that be "JRPG ⊂ RPG"?

i.e. the set of JRPGs are a subset of the set of RPGs. After all, you still play a role...
