personnally (HEAVY enfasis on personally here)

i loved Baldurs Gate and Jade Empire, i got so bored whit Mass Effect that i speed play trough the first one skip the second and dont even care about the third, i HATE Dragon Age and both KOTORS couldnt get past the first few hours of gameplay, those are the ones i played from them so i cant ellaborate on any others (HEAVY enfasis on personally once again, i know all these games have rabid fanbases so the subject is VERY flammable)

Here's the thing. Asking here you'll get several opinions. Base it on their sales and reviews over the last decade. Pretty damn good. They are definitely in the top 5 for best game developers around.

Now in my opinion? No, every game has been a blast for me.
Basically, this. The only time Bioware has ever disappointed me is with DA: Awakenings. Other than that, Bioware still remains my #1 video gaming company. Blizzard coming in second due to SC2 and the Diablo series.
I sort of agree with you on DA awakenings. Mainly because I didn't expect it to be so short, but hey it was more DA. I didn't hate it, I didn't think it was bad, I just wanted more than they gave. Probably a good thing, gets me more pumped for DA2.
Mhm. Though nah, it was more of the shortness for me as well. That, and my dual-wielding rogue/duelist character shredded through everything without a single Awakenings related upgrade, so.. >.<

Depends on what kind of game you like. If you're asking if they ever made any games that were, broken, I don't know. I think they made some sonic RPG, and I've heard bad things about Jade Empire (also a lot of good things, but those begin with "why do people think it's bad"), but I don't know. They make damn good games. Not so much DLC, the best part of Bring Down the Sky was the name and Awakening didn't fit with Origins properly and its epilogue was heart breaking bad. That might not be true if you count Throne of Bhaal as an expansion, it was a masterwork.

I'm noticing a few people naming Dragon Age. Judging from this and the normal complaints, I think someone screwed up on the marketing for DA:O.

Not to mention that with the name being Dragon Age I'd thought I'd see a dragon, you know, before 30 hours of game time (and no I don't count the little dreams or whatever)...
You do realize the name "Dragon Age" is actually referring to the Era of time in which you are a part of in the game, yes? It was never meant to literally mean you would be facing umpteen numbers of dragons. Though yes, most of them are in the Sacred Ashes storyline. But there is a reason for that, as well.

Supposedly Jade Empire wasn't particularly good.
According to my biware superfan friend: "Dragon Age was basically an apology for Jade Empire."

KoTOR 2. I didn't like that game at all. Also, I had trouble liking Dragon Age. It isn't necessarily DA's fault, I just didn't care for it.

Yeah, and I thought I remembered hearing at one point that it was referred to the "Dragon Age" because that was when the dragons 'returned to the land'. I only saw 2 the entire game, but then again, the last 10 hours I ignored any form of side quest... Oh, and that was another thing... I had like 30 active quests and no clue where to go half the time...

Truth be told, I didn't care for Dragon age origins. I tried to love it, I REALLY did, but the more I play it, the more I hate it. Its just not fun for me.
This goes for me too :/
Hell doing the first quest after you town gets slaughtered (when you're with those 3 dudes looking for god knows what now in a forest) was HARD enough for me. I kept getting killed by the dam ogre things :(
Just guessing here, but you played a Rogue (or possibly a Warrior) and/or was your difficulty higher than Normal?

I loved DA: O, but I got lucky in the sense that I chose to play a Mage, trying a Rogue afterwards was somewhat of a disaster. If the above is correct and you're not somehow against playing a Mage, give it a go, you'll find it a lot more satisfying I think - AoE dominates most of the game's combat and Mages aren't exactly weak in single target damage either.

If you need a suggested combo, I went with Alistair as a Shield tank (although I think you could/would be just fine with Sten using a 2 handed weapon) for the big mobs and then just took 2 more Mages, Wynne as a healer with Earthquake, Morrigan with a few healing, crowd control (most importantly Blizzard) and damage spells and myself as a full out damage dealing Mage.

OT: I couldn't really get into Jade Empire myself. Japanese characters speaking American was one of the things, but the gameplay (combat/camera/movement) was just not to my taste. I wouldn't say it's a bad game though, just doesn't appeal to me personally.

As for NWN, I liked it myself, played Hordes of the Underdark mostly, but think I played the 1/2 as well and enjoyed them as far as I can remember. Was a long time ago though heh.

Kotor will always have a special place in my gaming library, but Kotor II was an utter disappointment for me. The story was no where as good as the original.

As far as ME is concerned, I played through it once, but didn't really care for it. Dragon Age on the other hand I enjoyed a lot more and played through it many times.

Common misconception, I myself have only realised my mistake recently as well - KOTOR 2 was not developed by BioWare.

If you only played the first part, I'd recommend trying the second. I couldn't get into the first myself either, but found second just utterly brilliant :)

Wow, I'm surprised so many people dislike KoTOR. I just picked up a copy two weeks ago, and it's holding my attention well enough that I've already sunk enough time into it to beat most action games -- high praise, considering I tend to lose interest in those well before the 6-10 hours are up. This is really making me look forward to trying some of Bioware's other games...

I did not care for Jade Empire.

It wasn't bad by any means, but I consider it Bioware's weakest.

The only Bioware game I played was KotOR, heralded by quite a few as their best title. It felt slow, clunky, contained, and though I enjoyed the story and ended up completing it, I would not describe the experience as entertaining overall. I could not stand the combat or the lackluster puzzles, which disqualified a big chunk of the game for outright fun potential.

I'll admit to Bioware being an excellent developer who is good at putting out stories/dialog above the run-of-the-mill quality often seen in games, but after playing KotOR I realize they really aren't my cup of tea.

Actually, I see a few people mentioning Neverwinter Nights, and I just realized I played a bit of that when I was younger. I don't recall anything about it though, maybe I'll have to give it a shot again.

yes yes I know I'm crazy but since bioware has made so many good rpgs, I thought I had to ask
Opinions are going to greatly vary with a question like this.

As far as their well known body of work goes, I think the closest to them having a genuinely bad game is probably "Mass Effect 2" if you want to go by the numbers.

I say this because the fan community is very, very divided on that title. It's not that it's a bad game overall, but that it's arguably no longer much of an RPG but more of a customizable shooter. You'll see a lot of people who generally dislike RPGs who love it for that reason, especially among the more mainstream fans, however among the core audience that has made up their fans the transformation of the game into that much of a shooter did not sit well. You'll see discontent of this sort being expressed in various forums a lot more consistantly than you see anything negative in their others.

Also understand this is a comparitive thing, more than the game actually being panned on a massive level or anything. I do however think that if Mass Effect 3 doesn't re-instate a lot more RPG elements and make a big deal out of it, the sales are going to be lower than expected because I think "Mass Effect 2" sold so well based on intertia from the first one and people expecting a cleaned up/improved version of that title, rather than what was basically a whole new game concept.

I personally do like "Mass Effect 2", but at the same time I don't like the direction they went with it, and consider it a step in the wrong direction as I am an RPG gamer. I will doubtlessly play "Mass Effect 3" but if it's more like "2" than the first one it's pretty likely that I'm going to be waiting for a price drop rather than pre-ordering and giving them top dollar.

People have already mentioned the "Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood" game, and of course reviews of that are fairly mixed as it was very experimental. I guess in absolute terms it was a failure due to the fact that it doesn't seem that there is a sequel on the way despite a reported cliffhanger ending (I personally did not play it). I do not consider it part of their main body of work however, but sort of a side project they experimented with.

Now I've completed both the Mass Effect games, for some reason I find myself looking down on Dragon Age. It just pales so much in comparison to that series.
I agree with you. I beat Mass Effect 2 twice and went straight to Dragon Age. I enjoyed Mass Effect 2 much more so far. Maybe I'm just partial to shooters now.

Dragon Age: origins isnt a very good game in my opinion. In fact, in comparison to Mass Effect, its like Bioware dropped the ball.
