Are there any games in which you found grinding fun?

If I say Runescape, will I get my man-sack removed without consideration? If not, sweet.

If so, I'll have to say Call of Duty, actually.. Grinding on CoD is basically playing matches to get Experience, and in turn, ranks/levels. I personally enjoy CoD4 and Black Ops, so the "grinding", so to speak, was quite fun for me, and has been so for around 7 prestiges now.

Tales of games. Symphonia, Vesperia, and Abyss to be precise. The combat is just a blast, so I don't mind grinding really.

Fallout 3 and NV, killing every living raider, deathclaw, radscorpion in existence never got old. BUT, the leveling did get a tinsy bit boring near the level 25 mark.

Besides the obvious Pokemon, I would say I actually like Red Steel 2 grinding for money.

Resource grinding in Mass Effect 2 was just a little fun. I felt the tiniest spark of a thrill when the seismograph peaked. The spark was somewhat larger whenever I scanned a planet with sizable deposits of the uber-rare element zero.

Also, there are a ton of different things to grind in World of Warcraft. Quest grinding, heroic grinding for gear/points and achievement grinding come to mind.
Grinding certain low-level, high-mob dungeons (Stratholme and Cathedral come to mind) can be SO much fun. Run run run run run frost-nova blizzard loot repeat for an hour.

Heh, I made this thread not a month ago or so if I recall.

Anyway World of Tanks, Pokemon, Freelancer are my answers. I could play those games for days straight. Love them.

I would say Final Fantasy Tactics. I love the monster encounters and I really really love the fact that your team can attack its fellow members. I would frequently kill all the monsters or foes, but one, split my team in to two teams and have them duke it out. You got experience, got to experiment with different strategies and you didn't feel like you were cheating the game because it was just like your team was training with sparring matches.

Getting enough red orbs to buy everything in Devil May Cry 3 was never any bother. I just went Bloody Palace and arsed around with ridiculous weapon combinations, seeing how much I could mess with the enemies before I killed them.

WoW; when I played that game for two months, I got bored around level 33 due to an absence of tolerable quests, indeed any indication where I should go next, so I ended up grinding in that forest place just south of the Human starting zone for rare items to sell and metals to mine; I got to level 40 in a week and made 150 odd gold and actually had fun along the way; I enjoyed the atmosphere as I grinded and messed around with lower level alliance people (i.e. killing their quest mobs) once in a while.

Infinity Blade. Oh, so very much. I could purchase gold from the online store, but then I wouldn't have the pleasure of trying out all the cool weapons and kill more baddies. Adds to the replay value.

Starcraft 2. It wasn't really grinding, it was more like waiting to launch my assault so I can build an absolutely ridiculous amount of troops. I don't stop building until it buttfucks the framerate ;P
I do the same thing. My favorite thing in the first one was to use to (when available) use the dark archons to steal an enemy builder. Here let me fight you with yours and mine. So stupidly hard/broken but oh so worth it.

Star Ocean 2, I actually forgot objectives along the way cause I just had a blast fighting shit.
It's odd.
I remember the first time I managed to kill one of those red lizards on the second continent. I felt like a bad ass. Hey, they could do massive damage and paralyze your party members both of which could end in a game over. Then, I had a fight against two of them. But yeah, combat was fun and worked well. Also, your various attacks could level up and become more powerful.

Legend of Legaia also comes to mind as having a great combat system. I think the OP could tell ya about that one. I could probably also count Breath of Fire 3. Transforming into a dragon never gets old.

If you'll hear me out- Digimon World Dawn. That game was bad on nearly every level, but it did actually do something right; the grinding served multiple purposes.

1: You're gaining experience points to level up characters. That's fairly standard, but add on to that the fact that you could get different types of experience fighting different monsters, in doing so unlocking different evolutions for your main 'mons.

2: Each time you encounter a monster, it brings you that much closer to owning it. Once you fought a specific monster enough times, you had the option of adding it to your party, which was kinda cool.

It really makes me want to design a better game built around those two cool ideas.

Here as of recent Dead Island. I'm still working through my first run but the grind in this game still has excellent melee going on. Once I get to New Game+ I'll verify this comment...

Just Cause 2, hands down.

I'm playing it now actually, and working through '100%-ing' the various villages, towns and cities, as well as all the military bases. I'm still very much enjoying blowing everything up, and hunting down all the resource packs.

On a side note, does anyone know if you can continue to roam around and collect things and do missions AFTER the 'main story' has been completed.
Ninja'd.
Definetly Just Cause 2 is the most grindy non-RPG game i've ever played, yet it does it so well it's impossible to find it dreary.
Although a fun grindy RPG game would be Persona 3, atleast for me.
Mainly because every encounter was a possible Game Over and the fact that the combat and Personas are presented in such an interesting way while staying in a simple 'Water Beats Fire Electricity Beats Water' Combat system which enforces experimenting with the Fusion mechanic. Really great.
