Are There Any Games You Loved, but Never Finished?

I only ask because I feel like I might be in that sort of spot with Dark Souls right now. My problem is that I keep getting overly eager to try a different play-style, or join a different covenant, so I start a new file, and I never end up moving very far ahead in any of them because I keep bouncing around from character to character. I have one character that I've gotten pretty far with (up to Crystal Cave), but I've built him somewhat poorly, and I feel like I've kind of hit a wall with him.

It feels odd; I know I'm going to play the game for a while to come, yet I don't really see myself finishing it any time soon. I think it's because Dark Souls really feels like it's more about the journey than the destination, so to speak. My to finish games that I start isn't really kicking in.

So, fellow Escapists, are you in a similar scenario with any games you really like?

For me I guess the biggest one is Burnout Paradise. I've done most of the game, but if I remember rightly there are a few events I've never been able to do. I think I've got a few stunt events I never finished, but I was never that interested in them to be honest. The scores I have to get to win are pretty ridiculously high, but I haven't really tried much at them. But there is certainly one other race that I've never been able to do. The time attack event for the F1 car. It's the last time attack event and it's just absurd. I simply cannot do it. Tried it so many times, but there's always a car coming out from a blind junction, and it's completely random. But every time, there's always one that I can't avoid.

The only other one I can think of is Okamiden. I'm stuck on this really damn annoying boss. The Daidarabotchi. It's a giant robot thing. So irritating. You have to climb all the way up it every single time, which has a time limit, using really terrible trampoline things. The timing to jump on them is abysmal, so you waste a load of time just trying to use them. Then you have a battle with some guy at the top. A couple of times when I've got there the game just locked up and I had to reload and climb all the way back up again. The guy you fight at the top is also harassing you all the way up the climb too, with attacks that seem unavoidable. And when I actually get to fight him at the top he has yet more attacks which I have no idea what to do about, since he attacks your weak companion who spends the fight standing right in the middle of the battlefield.

I loved Star Ocean: The Last Hope International, but I never really beat it. I never beat Vanquish, either.

Final Fantasy VIII.

Massive nostalgia trip for me, despite its flaws; played up to Ultimecia's castle at least twice; never finished it. No idea why.

Nope.

That seems weird. If I didn't want to play a game enough to complete it, then I clearly don't love it.

Sort of? I loved half of Far Cry 3. Then after one part half way through the game (those of you who have played will know which part) and getting to the second island I got bored. I suddenly stopped liking Jason Brody as a character and the game got dull. So I sort of loved it?

Dragon's Dogma is another one. The fights against big monsters were great, but good god is the rest of the game boring. However, I agree with Zhukov.

I enjoyed parts of both of these games, but didn't really love them enough to finish.

Metro 2033. Amoebas. Fuck.

Also Monster Hunter Freedom unite but I think that applies less because I haven't had the chance to experience a MH game with not-shit controls.

Rayman 2: The Great Escape. I got it when I was about five, and it would crash at a certain point about 2/3 of the way through the game- so I never completed it. :(

Fallout 3 because I refuse to finish it.

Company of heroes because I don't really care for the single-player (it's good, but I prefer co-op against AI).

Okami and Ico. Yeah, I should be ashamed. Every time I played those something seems to get in the way of me finishing it. Frustrating...

Kingdoms of Amalur and Black & White get a mention as well. I enjoyed them both, but one day I just stopped playing them.

Argarest: Generations of War.

I love the story behind it and the whole "Generate your next main by choosing which chick to marry". But the BATTLE SYSTEM bugged me something fierce. I love Disgaea, I love FFTA and stuff like that. But I could barely stand doing three fights a session.

Red Dead Redemption. It's an awesome game, but there's so much stuff to do that I never actually finished it. I unlocked Nuevo Paraíso, played for while, and never moved on. I'm gonna get back to it and finish it eventually... Just not sure when.

Another one I never actually finished was Assassin's Creed Revelations. Again, I enjoyed it, but I was something of a completionist on the other three games, so I was going for it on that one and it just never really happened. I can't say I loved the game, but I enjoyed it until I just stopped playing.

I think Far Cry 3 is absolutely amazing, and I love it, but, i just haven't brought myself to finish the story. I completed every camp takeover, and did every sidequest, but the main story does lose a bit of momentum once the big story change happens, which is probably the biggest reason i cant get myself to finish it yet; the first half was just too amazing for its own good, maybe they should have swapped the two halves of the game around.

Metroid Prime 2:
Love is a strong word since it's easily the weakest of the series. Even so, I really like the game but it's been too challenging for me to beat despite repeated revisits. I hear the last boss is insane and I've yet to make it that far.

Ninja Gaiden 3 (NES):
Only 5 continues! WTF!
The game is awesome. Made it to the last level dozens of times but never beat it.
My brother was able to once so I've seen the ending.

Battletoads (NES):
Level 3 was crazy frustrating but the one that bested my brother and I was the snake level.
We beat that one on very rare occasion but would have far to few lives to see much of the next stage.

Jumpman JR (Commodore 64):
Such a fantastic game but one I was never able to beat.
I probably put 100 hours into this game over the years growing up.

Borderlands 2. I love the game and have tons of fun with it, I've just never gotten around to finishing it.

Mega man battle network 2 for the GBA. I was ten playing that game. And it was tough. As a kid it was the hardest game I had ever played, and even though I am more experienced now then I was back then it is still a pleasant challenge. I had put a lot of time into it. There were hardships. But my 10-8 year old self kept to it and eventually I was at the point where I could take on the final boss.

Then the battery in my cartridge died, which wiped out all of my progress. I also have not figured out how to replace the small battery in those cartridges, so I haven't been able to even restart the game because saving simply does work. It is a long game.

I never finished Ace Combat 6. I'm a huge fan of the series, but the very last level of the game is fucking unfair.
