Well, I came into this thread to mention Chromehounds, but it appears that I was beat to it.
Oh well. Not like it matters. Chromehounds was an amazing multiplayer game with a crappy little single player that nobody ever played. Now it's a game with a crappy little single player that nobody ever played with a completely inaccessible multiplayer that was once the best of it's kind.
I had more fun with that game than I did with every other xbox game I owned put together.
So I'm desperate to find a good Mech game, but the only ones I've heard about recently are the Armored Core, (which is way too confusing), or the Front Mission Evolved game, (which just sucks on so many levels).
I have tried to download the free Mechwarrior 4 game from Mektek, but it didn't work (DAMN YOU VISTA!!!!)
So, did I miss anything? Oh, I have an Xbox 360 and a computer that runs Vista...
Also, for discussion purposes, you can comment about how there aren't any good Mech games anymore and how Mechwarrior 5 can't come out sooner.
In case you didn't know, I love Mechwarrior. Suck it Gundam!
Edit: So I'm looking for a game that has mechs vs mechs, something that doesn't force you into just one or two mechs but allows you control of at least a few, or else let's you customize your mech extensively, though I'm pretty sure all this is just wishful thinking.
I'd say your best bet is mech warrior 4... but as that's not working i don't know what to tell you. I agree though that the recent, i almost have to say spin off games, are lacking. They're oversimplified and removed the very things that i liked about mech warrior. Namely, the extensive customization abilities and the hard points (left torso right torso, center, head ect.) Now it's just a game about big robots shooting each other in the face, it's lost all of its tactical appeal. I remember some good times in that game... Fitting a black night with enough firepower to knock over an atlas... Crushing foes using my jump-jets in a Madcat MK2... It just isn't the same any more...
Btw is that just wishful thinking or is there actually going to be a Mech Warrior 5?
Also if you do find something good i'd like to hear about it, i wouldn't mind playing thouse games again, i wonder if Mech Warrior 4 works on windows 7 though...
No, they actually have an official trailer for MW5, see:
But they released it a couple years ago, and they still haven't given any updates about it. Last I heard, the developers were being sued by some assholes because they're mechs looked too similar to whoever was sueing them. So maybe it'll never come out...
That sir, is bullshit. I don't play Mech Warrior games cause the robots LOOK COOL!!! Freaken bastards. I would LOVE to see the series revived and there are people trying to kill it for an easy buck?!? I hate people some times...
I'm using Vista and MW4: Mercs from Mektek is working fine for me. You should check out their forums, don't give up!
I've been wanting a sweet mech game as well, but for now I'm just waiting for MW5, and holding myself over with an online battletech (boardgame!) league, played through this one client they have. (It maps out the battletech universe, factions can move around dropships, invade planets, etc.)

yeah the mechwarrior franchise is one of the unfortunates who got caught in the quagmire that is the legal snarl over who is the original owner of macross, if you want to blame someone blame harmony gold, if they hadn'tve sold the tomahawk destroid design from macross to the people that owned mechwarrior without the permission of the guy that drew the thing this problem wouldn't exist.
oh and also blame the guy responsible for chopping up macross to make the god awful robotech which spawned the entire mess in the first place

What's really stupid is that all of the companies with Robot or Mech stuff would benefit from a new Mechwarrior game. Suddenly people would remember how awesome giant robots are and actually get interested in some of the other Mech products. But noooo, let's just sue them for a quick buck! Idiots...

Armored Core: For Answer is pretty sweet. Pretty stupid name but w/e. Fun mech game. The mech customization is pretty damned impressive. Best I've seen tbh.
This. Armored Core 4 Answer is probably my favorite of the series so far. Missions are a bit on the easy side, but it's insanely fun. Great customization, great controls, etc. Online is a bit hard due to the speed and lag, but oh well.

Which Armored Core did you play/look at? the PS2 games and the PS3/360 games both have vastly different gameplay and mechanics.
I personally consider the PS2 Armored Cores to be WAY better and a PS2 shouldn't cost that much.
If you get the PS2 ones don't get Last Raven/Nine Breaker/Nexus in my opinion. They're not as fun AC2/AC2:AnotherAge/AC3/ACSilentLine.
But yeah, jumping into the series at AC4 is probably not the best approach.

Why hasn't this been given sequels!? I don't remember a thing about the plot but painstakingly destroying an entire city, one building at a time, was really cathartic.
As for actual mech games available now...I'm drawing a blank. As much as I enjoyed Dynasty Warriors Gundam, I really don't think those should count since it's Dynasty Warriors using a different character template.
