Lately I've been thinking about my two main passions/hobbies in life (video games and dancing) and how they vary rarely ever cross paths. I have yet to meet any other dancers who also love video games and vice versa. So, I thought maybe I just need to go looking for them. So, here I am. Let me introduce myself. I am a 20 year old female dancer and I live in the mid-west U.S. I take Ballet (getting my pointe shoes next week!), teach Irish Step dancing and took competitive Gymnastics for about 8 years. So, that's me. Now your turn. Do you dance? What type? For how long? And whatever else you'd like to share. :)

Oh, P.S. There are some songs from/about video games (several Miracle of Sound songs) that have inspired me to try my hand at choreographing dances to them. I don't have much experience in that area but that's why this is kind of an experiment. In my mind I'm picturing a duet to Legends of the Frost that would just be so fantastic. Let me know what you think about this idea.

Can't trust a girl with pointy shoes. She might be a witch.
(obscure book reference)

As far as the OP goes, not really. I tend to be rather concious about drawing attention to myself, so dancing is out of the question really.

On the subject of choreographing dances to video game music, that sounds pretty cool to me. Don't know of anyone doing that before.

This is me doing some bboying:

I also do popping, locking and hip-hop (I don't have any footage of that on youtube though).
Been dancing bboying since June 2000, I started doing other styles around 2004-2005.

Some video game music is good for choreography.
I have a solo routine to this one:

I can sort of swing dance. My mom taught me the jitterbug for some reason or another once, and it's stuck. I should probably learn more, but I've never gotten around to it.

Oh I'd love to do the Jitterbug. Looks like good fun.
Unfortunately I have neither the talent nor the partner for much dancing.

Back in college I took modern dance, jazz, as well as ballroom dancing classes. Great exercise. Fun. And being in a room full of fit girls gyrating in skin tight spandex was wonderful.

Not that it improved my night life, though. *sigh*

I haven't danced since then, but I LOVE watching live performances. Having dancing experience of my own really enhances my appreciation of watching performances.

Lol, swing, waltz, jazz, ballet, blues, african, contra, and several other, but not as gracefully. And here I thought I was the only gamer who danced. :)

Dancing would take a level of coordination I do not have, as would gymnastics. I think its really cool that you can do those things (olympic gymnastics blows my mind) but I cannot do them myself. Also, I am a guy so even if I could dance, I wouldn't really have any place I could do it (not that I think guys shouldn't dance, but I don't think any of the dance places near me have guys in them).

We had a swing course at school (mandatory). I've got rythm, and I was willing to learn so I'm... Decent at it. Usually only dance when out partying, though. Not really a dancing man.

Admire those who do, though, don't get me wrong. It's just something I can't dedicate myself to.

I am not a dancer.

However, I would very much like to learn several EDM dances. Namely, DnB/X-outing [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXiOnYckqMU], jumpstyle [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WK58ayQ4cC8], the Melbourne shuffle [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPaMdxC6CQI], electro [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFkOynj6_ZM] and whatever this awesomeness is [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twqM56f_cVo].

We should start a ballroom dance club!

Like I tell people: "I'm a white boy; I don't dance, I reinforce stereotypes." In all serious I am not a professional dancer nor do I go out dancing on weekends, however at a party or a wedding I will be tearing up the dance floor.

I really like the Melbourne shuffle, along with other forms of electronic dance. The problem comes when it's time to actually have fun with it. I can't dance in front of people.

Why? I don't get pointe shoes, I mean, I get they make the dancer go higher and its a mark of skill due to the fact that you have to balance on them, but it completely mystifys me as to why someone would want to put their feet through the pain they cause (or so I hear).

I don't dance, ever. Two of my brothers did ballet for a long time, so I have a tiny bit of knowledge about it.

Also, anyone who says that Ballet isn't manly, is a fucking moron, it is one of the most difficult things I've ever watch someone do, and it takes a ton of strength, balance, and finesse.

well I wouldn't call myself a dancer per se, but I did just finish a 3 year performing arts course of which dance was a major part.

Although I've never taken lessons I enjoy dancing quite a lot, the music has to be right though or I can't really get into the feel of it. I go clubbing a lot and after a drink or two I quickly loosen up and tear up the dance floor. Apparently I'm pretty good but I'm sure I'm nothing on something with actual dance training.

When I'm alone in my house, I turn off all of the lights and flail around to stuff like this:

I do salsa dancing. It's kind of rare to meet someone who is interested in these two hobbies, though. They are kind of at odds with each other. If there was a way to meet such people, I'd bloody do it. So hey, move to England and we'll hang out. >_<
I know, that's the thing. We're such a small group that it makes finding others like us quite difficult. But it's good to know you guys are out there! Even if you are half way around the world. :/

Wow! You do all that? That's so cool. :) I wish I had the time to try all those different kinds of dance. And I, too, am glad to find out I am not the only dancing gamer... Or whatever you want to call us.

I am no where near olympic level. But I know what you mean. Olympic gymnasts are amazing, aren't they? Also, most dance studios teach men as well as women (I know some actually want MORE men in their classes to even things out). If you wanted to learn to dance I'm sure you could find somewhere to take lessons. :) I don't mean to sound too pushy, I just love encouraging people to dance.

Sorry about 5,000 quotes in one post. I'm just so excited that people actually responded and I'm not the only dancing gamer. :)
