Are today's stupid people getting even more stupid or is it just me?

The poll options and thread title aren't to be taken seriously. HOW can some of you not recognise this!?

Kids have always been stupid, but they are getting stupider. Idiocracy is looking more and more accurate.
I think you mean it's getting easier for the stupids to get into power.

I'd say it's a combination of the teachers not doing a good job and the fault of the kids themselves. Also, some kids have a hard time learning.

Yes, because they're getting complacent and lazy. Also, the gallons of chemicals in everything probably isn't helping...

Something tells me it's not just the children who seem to be suffering from (or relishing in) sheer stupidity, but that could just be a vaguely obscure use of irony...

The children used to answer those questions were probably dicking about. It's not the teacher's fault that children are stupid, or when it is, the teacher has probably given up and doesn't really give a shit anymore because they've taken that much crap from inbred yobbos they just can't be arsed with it. Teachers teach what they are taught to teach... and paid to teach... They do it in practically the same way as it has been done for a long time except they're not allowed to throw things at the little buggers like old school teachers were, see if I'd have had a board eraser thrown at me a few times, I'm pretty sure I never would have told my art teacher to get screwed because I didn't want to wash up.

Saying that, it isn't the lack of punishment either, it's a lack of interest, with games consoles, crap tv shows and the internet being crammed down their throats on a daily basis, very few of them look at things like books and go "wow that might be interesting."
History: why read a book or watch a documentary about war when you can play a game about war?

Edit: I read this all back and it makes me realise I talk about this in a "back in MY day" fashion, yet "back in MY day" was only about 3 years ago... Mind you, I call 18/19 year olds "the youth of today" as well... I'm too young to be old... >.>

Did you know everything about WWII when you were at that age and all of the finer points of history?
I doubt it. They are kids and if they don't have an interrest in history then they arn't going to learn are they. Heck i know pratically nothing about modern history including the world wars because it wasn't rammned down my throats and i'm more interrested in early modern and earlier stuff. Also its from the daily mail. Daily mail = highly dubious source of informations. As my politics tutor has told me... never use the daily mail as a source of information as you will be laughed at only use it when its necerssary ie talking about the medias influence on policy.

"We is smarter then?"
"Yes, poll make."
"Good is! Hungry, you? Eat."
"That rat."
"Juicy, uncooked rat!"
"Me sign up!"
I can't even describe how hard I laughed at that. For about five solid minutes. Hooooooly shit.

Not really. The stupid cases are reported but it's never accurate, people just use one example to attack a broad medium. These examples are just getting stupider.

Ironically, your grammar is retarded.

I was going to make a witty reply about the thread, then the title, followed by the poll's terrible use of grammar, but I believe everyone already did that for me.

Have a kid watch an episode of the game show "Where in the World is Carmen Santiago?" and expect them to answer all the questions. Then try to do so yourself. That should answer your question.

You're confusing Wisdom with Intelligence.

What these kids are, is Ignorant, meaning they lack knowledge. It doesn't mean that they are stupid though, any of these kids can be very intelligent.

Everyone is stupid. 'Stupid' is just relative, kids have been alive less long so theyve had less time to accumulate knowledge than most everyone else. Everything is relative really, and relative to all the knowledge that exists, everyone is stupid as no one can even begin to fully comprehend everything that ever existed ever. The same person who could survive indefinitely in the wild would probably not be able to do quantum physics, and a rocket scientist might not know how to cook a gourmet meal. The fact of the matter is, in the grand scheme of things we're all stupid, and if when you look around you see idiots all around you and you don't for a second think that everyone one of those people sees you as being just as stupid on your off days, and possibly even your not so off days, then theres really no help for you at all.

We're all just projections of ourselves, and our projections are not who we see ourselves as being on the inside but people can't see our insides, they just see the person who made a mistake (as humans often do, we ARE flawed) and then label you as an idiot. Scary isnt it

As a couple people have mentioned, even disregarding the source, one should always be skeptical when viewing the results of a survey of this sort. Teachers can't control whether an outside survey will be asking questions that they have taught, or whether the survey will ask things that the students aren't meant to have learned yet. As such, the teachers aren't willing to make these surveys part of a student's grade.

So, imagine that you are a kid. You have plenty of tests and homework that you have to do for your grades, and now someone wants you to take this "test" that isn't going to have any effect on your grades... great! You're certainly not going to do your best. Either you're going to make up silly answers, or you're going to rush through it as quickly as possible so you can chat with your friend. After all, you're not being graded.

And honestly, it's not just kids. If I were to put up a poll right now on these forums, something to the effect of:

Q: Which of these is a number?
a) infinity
b) 6
c) lemonade

What sort of response would I get? I think I could "conclusively" prove that about 40% or better of forum members believe that "lemonade" is a number.

Best to leave the testing to the teachers, who at least have some control over persuading a student to act to the best of his/her abilities.

As part of an engineering course we took we had to teach heat transfer to high schoolers. We needed a before and after quiz to demonstrate that they learned something. The problem is they didn't give a shit. We had questions like how does heat from the sun reach the Earth and we got answers like "Cause its ballin" and "Poop." Kids that age would say Auschwitz is an amusement park because they think it's funny.

Contrarily, I voted "No its you" because of how awful your writing is.

This thread is Irony at it's best.

As far as the actual topics goes, I'm not really surprised 9 year olds don't now much about the World Wars or the Holocaust...they are 9 after all.
