You're confusing chronological progression with stupidity. Just because children who aren't yet pubescent don't know who Hitler was doesn't mean they're stupid. When you have your first child (which, I hope, won't be for another 20 years), will you say he or she is an idiot because they don't know what 9/11 refers to?TheJackel2008 said:*blah blah blah blah*
^ This. I hope you're a girl, because then I can love you. Legally. Without fearing religious prosecution.SniperWolf427 said:Being fifteen myself, seeing stuff like this angers me. I have to stand up for my generation and say this:
There always have been and always will be stupid people. I'll bet you there were plenty of dumb kids in your generation as well.
Jesus christ, everyone pretends it's a sudden phenomenon. I'll bet you there are plenty of retarded adults who have no fucking clue about D-Day either. It has nothing to do with this generation.
I wasn't shocked that 9 to 10 years don't know about Auschwitz or the World Wars because there still kids and shouldn't be worrying about things like this, No, no, no I was shocked that a small number of 12 to 15 year olds didn't know about Auschwitz ect.,CuddlyCombine said:You're confusing chronological progression with stupidity. My point is, time passes. I know a lot about World War 2 because I'm working towards a politics degree and I've taken a lot of history courses. However, I'm not well-briefed on the War of 1812, and I know next to nothing about the Fall of Troy. Both very significant events of their time, but both far faded in the annals of history.
Anyway, this is all getting blown out of proportion. They're kids. Don't expect them to know the particulars of a war that pre-dates them by more than half a century.
I ninja'd you, but true. I guess part of the blame lies on parents who think that the things that took place while they were young matter more than current events.GrinningManiac said:Kids have always been morons. I bet none of you (WITHOUT googling, cheaters) can tell me about the events leading up to other important wars, like the Napoleonic, or the English Civil War (Or those interested in History, I mean the average Joe, here)
This is a generation who weren't in the war, and the closest they have to it is their grandparents, who they don't exactly see every day.
The generation before them had parents who saw the war and reminded them, and the generation before were IN the war, and their parents were in WW1 or the Boer War.
It's fading out of daily context. WW1 has already gone from living memory. It's not shocking, just sad. Give 'em time, and a clot round the ear
Yes, yes it is.bleachigo10 said:Kids have always been stupid, but they are getting stupider. Idiocracy is looking more and more accurate.
As a poster above me said, do you know about the Napoleonic Wars? How about the Helenic Wars? 1812? Waterloo? There are countless battles fading into irrelevance as time goes on. Are we expected to know them all in order to be 'intelligent'? If that's the case, I'd rather be considered stupid.TheJackel2008 said:I wasn't shocked that 9 to 10 years don't know about Auschwitz, No, no, no I was shocked that a small number of 12 to 15 year olds didn't know,
Btw I'm only 14 guys and this my first thread.
