I still see people talking about being excited for games that will come out, and happy for games that they've played and liked. (If you look through my previous posts you can see I've written about a lot of games that I've really enjoyed) So I'd definitely disagree with the whole of the gaming community being pessimistic/cynical.
I suppose the majority tone of the community may have drifted a little more to the cynical side, but I think some of the practices of the AAA Game Publishers have pushed the community there, and the cynicism is well deserved for the nickel-and-diming, DRM schemes that prevent legit customers from playing their games, and EULAs that deny customers rights.
