Yeah, I´ve been thinking about it a bit. First, fuck no I´m not talking about that unmedicated disaster that is the new trilogy, but rather the alterations of the old movies.
Ok, ok, I´ll be the first to admit that Obi-Wan looks like a hobo with the new scream, and I think that the "no!" thing was a good ideia poorly executed, but is it that of a big deal? Every single article that I see about it says that it ruined Star Wars, that Lucas shitted himself all over it, etc, etc.
Why? Yes, most of them aren´t good (I´m looking at you Jabba), but I don´t think it´s such of a big deal as everyone wants us to believe. The story is still great, and so are the characters, the music, the universe itself and you get the ideia. I know that some alterations are unpleasent, but are they that bad that we need to go supernova and call the old Trilogy ruined?

Doesn't bother me, I bought the unaltered Trilogy and have yet to see any of the altered versions all the way through. Why doesn't he alter the first 3? Maybe he could digitally remove Jar Jar Binks?

Regardless of whether or not you believe the fans are overreacting, the solution is ridiculously simple. All Lucas has to do is release the unaltered version of the classic trilogy on Blu-Ray. Simple as that. Bundle it together with the special edition or sell it separately, I don't care. The traditionalists would be placated, the revisionists would have their alterations, and Lucas gets more money. It's a win-win all around, wouldn't you say?

I think Lucas' refusal to do such a simple thing is the real reason why old-school fans are up in arms about the whole thing.

I just don't care anymore, the whole Star Wars thing is getting fucked left and right so I'm not touching it again.
There were some good movies and games a long time ago and that is all I need to remember.

The idea of re-releasing the films and new games under the Star Wars name? I'm cool with that.

Altering the original trilogy for no reason? No. I was pissed at that

I recall hearing that Lucas was planning a Star Wars sitcom where we see the everyday lives of the characters, including Jar Jar Binks.

I stopped reading. piled up all of my Star Wars DVDs and videogames, walked to my little brothers room and told him. "Here you go, I give up."

Hopefully I'll regret this someday.

Slapping the Star Wars label on a load of generic shooters and shit? Fine. Universe expansion and all that. Star Wars has a big universe.

Altering already existing films to take away any degree of subtlety? Kinda fucks the actors from behind, doesn't it? It's ridiculous...and totally pointless. Who could have thought the films could be improved by ADDING sounds?

Never have I seen such bitching from fans. I personally don't give two shits about the differences, I've enjoyed the altered and unaltered versions of the films because they are both superb.
Yeah, youprobably miss that article here on the Escapist. The one telling us about the NOOOOOO! change. See it and you´ll know what I mean.

Nostalgia makes things from when we were young seem better. When something new comes out we can always just sigh, and remind ourselves that the past was great, and continue to enjoy that cherished object again and again. It's a childhood sanctuary carried forward throughout life.

Changing that thing we loved 30+ years after the fact is like time-travelling child rape.

I don't dislike every alteration. The death star actually explodes properly now and if I remember correct they added a celebration like scene at the end of the the sixth movie which was kind of cool. Besides those I really can't stand the other alterations. I personally feel that movies IV-VI are masterpieces as they originally were. I don't understand why George Lucas feels a need to tamper with perfection.

This. Just release the darn originals as well as your superspecialsnowflakeawesomethewayitwassupposedtohappenifIhadthetechnology version (working title) and all will be fine. The fact that he refuses to do something that will take very little effort, yet yield a massive profit for him shows that he is not thinking rationally about the films any more. They have become too much of an obsession for him, someone show him World of Warcraft or minecraft or something.

We would never be that lucky.

OT: Perhaps a little. At this point for me, it's just a sigh and silent plea for him to just stop. I think a lot of SW fans are getting way too pissed off about what Lucas is doing to their favorite series. Yeah they are terrible ideas, but not enough to cry for blood.

Why he feels the need to keep tampering with them is beyond me, other than a quite cash grab of course.

Whooow there, Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight was a revolutionary FPS in its time. X-Wing and Tie-Fighter were awesome space shooters (I can't really call them simulators). And Kotor 1 had a better story than all 6 movies put together.

Anyway, since this is bluray, I can't figure out why they couldn't mash together separate versions, you'd just choose from the menu which version (original unaltered & CG crap added versions) and the movie would just swap particular scenes.

I really don't get why people are upset about him trying to get more money.

I mean he can release new versions all he wants, it's not going to make our old ones disappear.

And just because he won't do that he deserves all the bashing, I mean C'mon it's not that hard to do is it?
