i'm a fairly quick reader. it seems as though watching subtitled anime has made me get faster
I'm of the exact same opinion. I watch tons of anime subtitled, so it makes me read quickly naturally.

I read considerably fast, whenever I am reading something with a friend (like say a comic book) I am done far before them. Sadly I can sometimes misread words when I read really fast.
This is me, I tend to challenge myself to read faster and end up missing/misread stuff, kind of screws me up sometimes.

I get distracted when I read, so I often have to reread. I have the attention span of a 3 year old in a toy store.

Very fast, also I have a mouth to match it. I never got picked to read aloud in English class at school because I'd end up blazing through it (I fucking hated reading aloud... it's a pointless exercise in singling out students the teacher doesn't like) leaving the rest of the class behind.

After spending all last night reading some of my favorite short stories and comic books, I remembered one of the reasons I started reading at a later age; I always thought I was a horrid reader.

It would often take me up to 45 minutes to an hour to read a chapter of 15 or so pages. I was 9 at the time, but I still felt inadequate compared to others whom I thought could blaze through a book in about a day but now that I actually enjoy reading, I haven't much noticed that my speed of reading hasn't changed a lot.

Last night, I was reading a book of short stories. Each story was somewhere between 20 - 30 pages long and the one in particular was around 26. Once finished I noticed that it had taken me 50 minutes to read that and after that, I read the Sin City book "That Yellow Bastard" in about an hour, so my basic question is, since I really have nothing to compare it to, is that slow?
So to get to the point of the thread, how fast can you read, do you consider it fast, do you care at all and does it effect your reading experience?
Actually no, your speed is about average, I can read ten pages in 8 minuites due to the fact that I was taught to get the core informaton.

My example? I read harry potter and the half-blood prince in one night...and didn't skip a chapter...yeah, my (C)rowning (M)oment (O)f (A)wesome.
Good for you I guess. Mine would be when I read A Clockwork Orange in about 8 hours. Or at least I think it was 8 hours. I was supposed to be up for school that day but was too busy reading that to sleep, so I got to stay home :D

I read very slowly. It's usually because I start thinking about something while I'm reading, start contemplating about that thing while still scanning the lines mindlessly, then realize I haven't been reading for 3 pages, meaning I have to reread those three pages. And when I get a song stuck in my head (I usually have one) the words start to look like the song lyrics.

I read pretty fast, I'm usually a bunch of chapters ahead of my friends when we all read a book. I only really make mistakes though if I go on major speed read mode in which I skim my eyes along lines and try to make out was said, makes for some interesting mistakes.

I read pretty fast. That comes from practice, I read lots of books.

Oh, and I don't know exactly how fast I read. Took me about three free days with lots of reading(NOT 24/7 though) to get through a 1000 page book.
It takes me roughly 4 hours, uninterrupted, to get through a book that size (I read The Stand in just over 4 hours not too long ago).

I am a speed-reader, but I comprehend and retain what I read, which is just as important as speed.

I can read relatively fast, but I'm not able to fully remember what I read when I go through it fast. So yeah I have to slow down just a little bit.

I can read pretty quickly but I prefer to take my time because if I read really fast I seem to miss a lot of important details.

When I read normally (not attempting to speed read or intentionally go fast) I get about a page every 40 seconds or so. If I push myself, I can do a page in 20, I still get all of the information on the page, but it's stressful to do, so I don't.

That does seem kind of slow to be honest, I know I'm above average, but it sounds like you get maybe a page every 2 minutes.

That's a page every 15 seconds or so, I can read that fast too, but then I get really stressed out, and while I comprehend everything, I don't get a chance to appreciate it because I'm constantly assaulting myself with new words at the absolute peak of my speed.

Do you even enjoy reading when you do that? Because I don't, I like to stick around 40 seconds a page or so, above average, but it leaves enough time to not only read everything and remember the words, but to interpret and visualize it as you go.

8 minutes for 10 pages isn't that fast, it's a bit above average, but you don't really need to be taught anything special for that.

I read fairly fast, I can normally finish a typical paperback book in a little less than a day, if I have no work or school, less than that if I push myself. Most graphic novels I read in about an hour, depending on the length.

I'd say I'm a fairly fast reader. Watching subbed anime, playing games with text and such helps.
Take for example the game I'm playing right now, Persona 4. I sometimes press X before they're done talking because I read faster than they talked.
I remember playing Mass Effect 2 with subtitles, I don't think I let a single person finish a sentence, lol.

Actually, I enjoy reading quickly more than when I take it slow. Bad memories of elementary school... my teachers forced me to read more slowly because they didn't think I understood what I read. Drove me nuts, you know?

That must have been annoying as shit, I definitely wouldn't have slowed down for them.

Still, I like it more when I am not reading so quickly that I don't have any brainpower left for visualizing and enjoying it.
