Are YOU a mainstream gamer?

I'm going to need you to define "mainstream." I'm not sure my personal deffinition will match up.

I guess I am. I mean, I play really popular games like AC2, MW2, and L4D2.

Let me take a good look at my collection. Hmm. Fallouts other than 3, enough trading/economic sims, some of them open-source (Simutrans and OpenTTD, that's right, I needed TWO transport games to satisfy the hunger, bitches!), to thoroughly scare away a lot of people and confuse the rest...

Umm...mainstream? Sure, I play mainstream games, but they're the side dish. The meat of my collection's the obscure stuff.

Mainstream gaming is fine. Avoiding something simply because it's mainstream is just idiotic.

Mainstream music on the other hand...

...Good pint. But that's only because right now mainstream music trends aren't very good. Or maybe that's because most of us escapists aren't moving on for all the tea in china.

As long as its not Halo, Madden and WoW I generally don't think of games as being mainstream.

The problem is that even if a game is somewhat underground, once word gets around that its good, it will become mainstream.

Look at Bloodlines and Psychonaughts, while neither were commercial successes on launch, just try and find a hard core gamer that hasn't played them?

I run a strange gaming ship. I have the odd mainstream title, for example, MW2, AC2, Halo, BioShock...but then I own a hell load of games that a lot of people don't even know about. I guess most games are mainstream though seeing as a lot of titles get reasonable coverage on magazine, the internet etc.

Well my favorite games are by blizzard, black isle (bioware now I guess), and Level 5 (rpgs only, as puzzle games never seem to be worth buying), so yeah I like mainstream games I guess. I'm not sure if Dark Cloud 2 is a household name though.

If you game, you're mainstream. Unless the only gaming you do involves Dungeons and Dragons and other tabletops. Then you suck.

There's nothing wrong with Tabletoping! You can get some great laughs.
OT: I don't think it matters if you're a "mainstream gamer" or not. I tend to piss of online gamers fairly often seeing I've not quite weened out of the 5 friends sitting in a room playing nintendo yet. XD

Totally mainstream. Even some of the games I play that are relatively lesser known such as Beautiful Katamari and Gitaroo Man and i maed a gaim wit zombi3s and such are still mainstream.

I don't brand myself as one, I buy mainstream games, but also buy other, games.

I'm not entirely sure what "mainstream" would apply to.

For Instance I play Day of Defeat and Counter Strike Source... are they mainstream?

Nah I still prefer the SNES playstation and the first xbox but I have a 360 and really like the games but I'm still not a mainstream gamer I prefer the old.
