Optimist, definitely.

That said I often see the worst in a lot of things, namely people, which I guess could be down to being really judgemental and not so much pessimistic. I also get annoyed when my friends get angry or negative for some weird reason, even if I'm not remotely involved with why they're upset.

Optimist, I tend to make sure I avoid all negative thought altogether.

Why the fuck would I want to be down and unhappy all the time when I can get my shit together and make everything awesome and have a great day? It just seems so futile trying to see the worst in people, in things, in life. There is no reward, it's a pointless stream of negativity.

So optimism makes sense when you look at life and decide you want to be happy. Problems, regardless of gravity, will end up resolved so there's little need to worry about them.

High-five.

Realism all the way.
The cup is half empty when its previous state was greater than half, and the cup is half full when its previous state was less than half.

I'm not really either... and I hate being branded as a Pessimist...

of course, insert undoubted comment saying I am once thus is mentioned:
I'm a realist... I only SAY bad things are going to happen because I KNOW what's coming... Kind of a Murphy's law thing...
"If it can go wrong, it will go wrong" -- But only if you expect it...

so; if something bad is going to happen, it won't... Unless you think about it... Then run like hell...

I always say the most correct way of dealing with the cup problem is this...

If a cup is being filled it is half full, if a cup is being emptied it is half empty...

Hooray for realism!

Cautious optimism.

Pragmatism and realistic thinking are important for success, and being prepared for the worst is essential.

That said, being prepared and expecting the worst are two totally different things.

Spending years in gloom and doom mode to be able to brag when the disaster does happen is just not worth it. Better to spend your years happy and get hit with the occasional disappointment. I truly believe the universe favors good.

Definitely an optimist.

It's one of the many reasons why a lot of the crap that people tend to drag on about never phased me in the slightest because I chose to look past it and picture a better day over the horizon.

I'm a pessimist about 90% of the time, often ranging in intensity from "I don't really care and it'll probably suck anyway" down to "everything is shit so why the fuck am I still alive?"

Pessimistic for anything corporations, companies, publishers, politicians, general public do or announce.

Optimistic for my ability to adapt to any situation.

How about a realist?

I see it as a sweeping generalization to a direction or another. And I rarely see myself noticeably on either side anyways. If I'm being the motivator, I'm more optimistic, and if all the objective factors support failure, I'm more of a pessimist. So, realist really.

Optimist, after eliminating the pessimism of depression from my soul through purgation, metal and internet.
Is there any problem with being happy? I don't think so.
The fall from happiness? That's why you stay optimistic and make light of the situation. "Could be worse; could be raining."
Or as one way that removed my depression, "It could be worse, I could be some child soldier in Africa who'd been neutered with a rusty blade and have aids, as well as be forced to fight in some conflict against a rival warlord and his numbers of child soldiers. And then have a home in the dirt, with a good chance of being tortured and killed any night of my life whilst I struggle to survive because my conscription never came with a 'Please feed me' plan."
I liked suburban life in comparison to that.
