Yes yes yes. I usually go "To hell with it!" Before the game is over. But for a good while it sits there. Like my Hyper Beam TM. I'm thinking Floatzel but what if Scizor needs it later....I named him Krauser.
Whic is why I love that Black and White made TMs permanent. I have the same problem with any TM that can't be bought. I save every item I think might be rare or useful at some point in the future.

Let me put it this way...I can hoard plasma rounds all damn week, but the very instant I see something bigger than me, I'm getting the BFG-9000 out and using that sucker.

I am a Heavy saver.... If I had room for it on my PS2 memory cards I'd a new slot for every save file I hit. I have terrible luck with saving at a crazy part and being stuck. Like on FFXII I was stuck on this airship while guards constantly stream out and fight you while you make your way to an escapeship.... I finally managed to just sit at one point and camp all of the soldiers coming down the hall until after about 3 hours I leveled up enough to be able to make it out of there.

Elixir... megaelixir-- i has dozens
This, i complet games without using the best items because just in case i need them later. Never used a fat man in fallout games , never use elixirs in FF games . One time only items get saved and never used.

I'm always worried that I *might* need my heavy weapons for something bigger, as some dragon/behemoth/leviathan chews on my face. Leads to me carrying around a sick set of equipment that never gets used.

I always keep as much stuff as possible for a part I get stuck on so that I can usually just blow a load of my health potions / ammo / best stuff on it. Although even then I always try to keep my very best stuff until I really have no other choice to use it.

I guess I do this...I always tend to save the highest potions/medicines/whatever, and then never end up using them. Not so much with weapons or whatnot. Maybe with special ammo.

Resident Evil Remake on True Survival as Jill, you bet your ass I saved up ammo, I only killed about 8 zombies in the mansion to give me a clear run through the place, I only used 2 shotgun shells per hunter (finished them with pistol) Used my Acid rounds on the snake and saved all the fire rounds, Magnum ammo and a good chunk of shotgun ammo for Tyrant. Finished the game with onyl a few Shotgun shells left, felt like a boss.

To an almost comical degree. I ended Ultima VII with a huge bag full of wands, potions, scrolls, glass swords, etc. I was saving them for a critical situation that never came. In the years since, I've only gotten worse.

Damn. Guilty.

But, I wise man said once: "I keep this for the future. But the future is never now, so I'll never use it." :)

First thing I thought of when I saw this title was "John Freeman, saver of humens."

But to answer the question, yes. The 'but I might need it later' mentality has given me a lot of hassle in a lot of games, like Oblivion.

Incredibly so. I started noticing when I was throwing away health potions to make room for new ones. >.>

Yep i hoard and i hoard consumables my latest save on fall out 3 has over 2k stimpacks and tons of radaway since i have the rad cleaning or whatever perk
plus i go for any abilities that let me regen what i would normally need consumables for

some times i get so loaded down with crap that got pissweak ages back and end up having to sell it
and if its a game that lets me keep stuff in the bank the bank/stash/house storage will be so loaded up with random crap that it takes quite some time to find stuff

and grenades are the worst for me probably just my play style i almost never use them

and sorry about the disjointed stream of conciousness

Yeah I always save big guns and medkits and other things for a "last resort". The problem is that last resort never ever occurs.

I spent hours and hours unlocking the MIRV in FO3 and I have never seen it fire. The same is true of big health/mana pots and resurrection spells ect ect.

I have the same issue with Dark souls lately. I never ever use my great chaos fireball even though I waste 2 slots carrying it. There just never seems to be a time that is hard enough that I need it. Then there I stand in the empty boss room going, oh yeah I was saving that spell for you wasn't I. What a waste.

I not only save compulsively, I often wind up saving twice ijn a row because I'm not sure if I just saved.

Not all of the time, but most of the time I'll save some really good potion or something like that, but I never end up using it.

It just sits there in my inventory...
...forever...

EDIT:

In the sense that I save things until I really need them. They have to be used sometime between when I acquired them and the final boss' death. Sometimes a game just isn't hard enough that I need to go all out, or items aren't practical against the sort of enemies I face.

Then again it's good to have additional supplies, especially in games where survival potentially depends on having an extra spare around.

Heh, that happens to me sometimes. I save while my mind is on other things, then half a minute later I forgot if I saved, and save again just to be sure. Better safe than sorry.

As for the original question, I am very much a saver. I get a sort of thrill from conserving ammo, items, health, etc. Melee and careful aiming all the way! Probably one of the reasons why I enjoy Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill 2, and Resident Evil 4 so much.

I do tend to take it to extremes though. When I got to the final boss in Silent Hill 2, I was like "What? Really? It's nearly over? But I have all this ammo and these First Aid Kits! Oh well, time to go to wild, I guess!" *cue liberal application of Rifle bullets* Seriously, I ended the game with upwards of 120 or 140 melee kills (thank you, long iron pipe!) and, at most, 5 or 7 kills from firearms. On normal mode too.

Resident Evil 4 is determined to mock me, though. It's like "Oh, so you don't like using guns? That's cool, since you have NO FREAKING AMMO! Also, enjoy your dinky little survival knife!" *maniacal laughter*

ADDENDUM: In Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2, I find I either mostly use a melee weapon or rock dual pistols like a boss. Rapid delivery of pistol ammo to face is just as effective as a machine gun any day.
